Dear All,

Does anyone here have a magic wand to contact a person in Telkom whom can answer if, how much, in what time frame Layer 2 access can be provided to a premise < 50 meters from the Exchange? Failing this what is the next best option.

Tired of trying to ring and speak to a person willing to answer this simple question.
Today +- two weeks since last major attempt to wander down the rabbit hole. Written email responses, yet still no answer.

Your kind recommendation will be much appreciated.

Best regards

Is this for a house or business?

Business.

I looked at your company as an option.
Thought it is best to negotiate with infrastructure owners direct, tiresome as it may be.

If you are willing to hear the case, more than willing to compensate you for your time. This provided my questions can be accurately answered.
This is a two year old issue.

Progress to date.
Infraco.
Seems most willing and qualified to solve questions.
The bad, must register as an ISP.

LiquadTelecom.
Weeks of back and forth communication. Finally know the POP location.
Cannot deliver service to location needed.
Waiting on yes/ no for 5 different addresses.

Telkom, the best option in my view.
Not able for more than year to get accurate answer or party to speak to.
Still waiting on email questions asked and confirmed weeks ago.

Why do you want layer 2 unless you are an isp? You cannot provision it yourself unless you are licensed. Best bet would be to contact an isp.

Openserve layer2 is around 12k for 100/100, excluding bandwidth.

If there is dfa, you can get helios fibre to a single business, probably around 8 to 10k for 100/100 including bandwidth.

The service you are looking for is not available through Telkom Retail. It's a business service so you'd need to go through BCX (old Telkom Business) or one of the other business ISPs.

BCX and all the other ISPs will get the same cost price from Openserve (the division of Telkom that actually runs the network) due to the Competition Commission ruling. You then have a choice of service provider based on who you think will give you the best service.

PM me if you need some pricing.

If I omit the Layer 2, the responses {Telkom persist like a robot} you can use ADSL, neither Fibre nor VDSL is available.

I am not sure, seems I do not have permission to send PMs.

Sent you both PMs that simply disappear, no record in send items.

I try and PM the admin now.

Can`t PM the admin.

Suppose I need to make it in some way to 50 messages.
Cannot stand it if someone speak when they have nothing to say.

Single multiple this is, thank you ponder.

Sigh.
Sorry, still failure.
I am so very tired of wasting time trying to communicate with Telkom. They do not understand. Is this conscious incompetence or not?

Or, is it perhaps me?
The link you kindly provides states "bcx.co.za".
The above indicates you must ring "10214", did this.
On this number, from one office to the next.
After wasting more time, they tell me what I knew from the start, they name the services available as per Telkom coverage map.
{
=> Cannot submit form, it will not accept international phone number.
=> I am not emailing them as I already have outstanding emails with Telkom.
}
Logical error, I did site visits in the past two years.
There is a 100MB fibre link installed to a different office on the very property bordering the Telkom Exchange < 50 meters from the very centre of their exchange.

How can it be possible not to get answers to such a basic question.

Address was sent in PM.
Should anyone read this thread.
Ponder did reply, thank you.

I did no receive it. Please email christian @ level-7.co.za

ponder,
I took some time typing the private messages to each of you.

Seems the forum ate these messages all.
Indication is I need 50 posts before I can pm.

The following users pm`d me.

A quick summary of the pm status:
Thank you very much for your input till now.
Issue still not resolved.

Updates will follow.

==> "no DFA, and no residential fibre from Openserve, so your options are probably metro ethernet only, which is a couple thousand rand per month and a contractual term. "

pinball wizard
==> Gave me a contact to ring.
Rang a numebr of times, failed, just managed for first time to speak to person.
I am delighted. Questions pending.

ambo
