Assuming you're a South African community and you're not moving warez, the price of local hosting is usually affordable enough.
Try hosting a game server locally or try distributing something you created which is several MB in size and you have several thousand users.
Try find me 50 locally hosted podcasts sites ...
Let me give you a real scenario :
I'm busy creating some photographic scenery for a flight simulator which I want to distribute free of charge.
The file will be about 2GiB in size when I finish next month and I expect there could be about 500 people who would like to download it in the short term. That's 1 TiB in a couple of weeks. How much will it cost me to host it locally?
Hosting locally seems to be limited to having a few pretty HTML/PHP/whatever pages with zero multimedia content.
