I know everyone here hates Microsoft and says they are doing a crap job.

One thing I have to give them credit for is Server 2003. I'm in the process of learning the software and the way it was designed I think is amazing.

The amount of features and control you get with 2003 blows me away. Especially since the OS is already 5 years and I've heard good things about 2008 as well.

What are your thoughts on Server 2003?

I've been using it as my gaming os for the past 3 years :P
Heavily stripped down.
30% faster than XP.

I wouldn't rate it. We use it to service a 50 person office and of late it is verrry slow or simply breaks down.

Takes a team of mechanics to avoid total meltdown

I would blame hardware. Running a site +-200 users on a HP Compaq ML370, no problems for past 2 and a half years.

I have 3 sites and 3 servers ( DC's ) 50 users, 150 users and 300 users respectively, never have problems  except for server disk space running out now and again:(

your "team of mechanics" should check the hardware on that server:rolleyes:;)

Most people who complain buy the cheapest hardware (e.g. a cheap desktop PC), and then expect stability.

Our exhange server has been up for almost 90 days, last restart was a service pack install.

Oh not my mechanics at all. If it says Microsoft I won't touch it ;)

Using Server 2003 - Terminal Server. No problems whatsoever. Wouldn't recommend exchange at all!

TS FTW
Exchange FTL :D

It's running on a Dell Poweredge with a dual core xeon, 4GB ram , 15k Scsi disks... - and it's a fracking dog - though that's mostly down to exchange - and the clients are in cached mode.

90 Days!? Is that considered good?

Maybe your company needs to upgrade their techies?

I think 90 days is decent considering the power outages, etc.... and that the restart was due to a service pack installation, and not a crash.

Did you perhaps mean that it was restarted 90 days ago due to a service pack install? That would mean that it didn't have to be restarted due to some kind of failure.

We're running 150+ servers, generally find Server 2003 to be really stable.
