Who is my ISP?

I got a new voice line installed last Monday at which time I also ordered a 4Mbps uncapped line from AfriHost, after a lot of hassle communicating between AfriHost and Telkom I got confirmation from Telkom that my ADSL line is indeed functioning.

So I let AfriHost know and this morning they came back to me telling me they cannot connect me because my line is at some other ISP, and I have to cancel that line before they can proceed. I never applied for any ADSL line except through AfriHost. So I contacted Telkom and they confirmed my line was in fact connected by some ISP, but not Telkom. They could also not tell me which ISP. Also they confirmed that no ISP can connect my line without my authorization - AfriHost is the only ISP which ever received authorization from me.

In other words, I have an ADSL line from some ISP which I don't know. And before I can get the Internet I want, I must first cancel that service, which I can't do, because I do not know which ISP to contact.

Is there any way for me to find out to which ISP my line is connected to?

Sounds like a problem TelkomZA should be able to fix for you.

Send him a private message here at MyBB with the voice line number and I'm sure he'll sort you out.

If you do a speed test here on the site (top right on menu), it should tell you in the results.

Thank you for your quick replies.
I managed to connect to the internet through AfriHost's 1GB trial account.

Is it possible that my ISP is in fact AfriHost, but it is not registered on their database and thus they have just to activate my account?

If it is Afrihost who has your line you will see it under the clientzone portal

Again, this is not what the OP is looking for. OP is looking for which ISP has control of the ADSL circuit.

Oh... Well considering they're probably aren't too many ISP's around you could try calling all of them in order of popularity and ask them if they have your line. (I'm serious, it might not take that long mattering how many their are)

Sorry to hear that you're having such a terrible experience. It's pretty confusing, but it sounds like this is a clerical error on Telkom's side. We firstly need to establish if the line is functioning and whether it's actually with Telkom (they are an ISP after all). Also, need to confirm that you are not in contract with Telkom. We deal with Telkom Wholesale, but Telkom the ISP is a different entity in a sense :(

It seems the problem is now resolved (must have been some delayed admin somewhere).
Anyway my line is up and running and I am very satisfied with my service. :D

Thank you all for your replies!
