The new pricing system is absolutely ridiculous given the price drops of real broadband in the past couple of months. What is more is we'll have to be paying extra for the throttled service that was previously included in our subscription (and that we're contractually entitled to), so we'll be paying more for less.
Fortunately, there are now uncapped ADSL offerings ranging from about R399 per month (Screamer, line rental fee not included) to about R499 per month (SAOL, line rental fee included). I fail to see how putting up your prices amounts to competing.
If you want throttled wireless on iWorst, it seems that you'd have to subscribe for a 5 GB package (R592), and then pay an additional fee for the throttled service (R199), bringing you to a total of R790
Cute, that they take the per gig price and tell you that you're going to be saving, while in their shoddy email and in that article they stipulate that the throttled service is now a bolt-on plus they split up the per GB and data usage. Very creative accounting, but it's not really saving if you're paying more. Also, you'd be saving 63% if you switched to SAOL. That's ADSL rental fee included! All costs considered, not just per gig.
The new pricing system is thus not saving anything, regardless of which way you want to look at it, and to portray this new pricing as a saving appears to be deliberately deceptive.
Did I work this out correctly? Someone please verify because I intend on filing complaints with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission, the press ombudsman and ICASA if iWorst is trying to portray their new pricing system as a saving when they're being deceptive with the numbers.
If you're also tired of this Mickey Mouse walkie-talkie scheme then I suggest you also get those keyboards fired up and send complaints because heaven knows trying to get a reply out of iWorst's help desk borders on masochism.
Is there anyone on this forum who intends on staying with iWorst? I've already contacted three different ADSL ISPs, all of whom returned my queries faster than iWorst ever responded to me, some of whom are willing to get an ADSL out of Telkom on my behalf! I'm not even their customer yet but it seems that I'll be there before the end of February (if iWorst remembers to cancel my account by then and then hopefully the authorities can have their field day with iWorst).
