When the 24 months contract comes to an end , doesn't the modem belong to the client?Isn't the monthly installment inclusive of the payment for buying the modem?

As with a Cellphone contract, the phone is yours, unless there is stipulated that you are renting the Modem or router.

My modem was part of the package when I signed with sentech, when my contract ends the modem belongs to me, but there were packages that did not include the modem too. Although fat lot of good the modem will be when the contract ends. Nice paperweight and thats about it.

Modem soon up for sale - but will anyone be interested?

I have applied for the trial with Neotel.

If all goes well another IPW modem will be in the market. Anyone interested?

What is the going price for a paperweight?

Has anybody heard anything from Neotel lately? They seem to be in no hurry whatsoever to launch...

Guys, just be aware that if you are a NoWire client, you will find that at the end of your 24 month contract, the modem is still NoWire's. This means if you cancel, you are asked to return the modem to NoWire or purchase the modem (for R439 if I am not mistaken). My understanding is that this is NOT the case with regards to Sentech customers who will end up owning the modem after the 2 year contract is up.

This also means that a NoWire customer will continue paying the contract price after 2 years. It therefore makes sense to rather purchase the modem and reduce your subscription by R100 provided you intend continuing for at least another 5 months (provided you are not one of the bundled special customers who pay a month to month price even though they took a 24 month contract). All very complicated!

Owning the modem has no benefit - I have 2 of the stupid things - nothing I can do with them, unless I can find a sentech executive walking down the street in which case I can lube the modem up with some sand and shove it up his / her bum...................

lol :)

Does this apply to those of us who were/are on classic packages? As far as I recall, we paid the R100 a month for the modem and were told that when the contract ended the modem belonged to us. If what you say is true then I think that Noreply did a bit of misleading advertising.....

I must find that contract and double check this. If its true then noreply can get a nasty email everyday for the duration of that month.

I was also told the modem belongs to you at the end of the contract!!!

I was also initially told the modem belongs to me after the 24month contract period. However, (not much to my surprise), when I went to the NoWire offices in Pretoria yesterday to inquire about this I was told that after the 24month contract period the modem remains the property of NoWire but that I can purchase it from them. The lady was not sure of the amount but did mention that it is around R400. When I read the "MyWireless term and conditions" I find this:

5.2 Ownership of the subscriber apparatus shall remain with
Sentech and shall only pass to the customer upon full and
final payment of the cost of the subscriber apparatus.

So, if I read this, in my way, it basically means that whatever they decide is lawful. In fact, now that I have again read the terms and conditions I find it hard to believe that I (or anyone) would sign such a "biased" contract.
Then again, at the time it was either Sentech or Telkom and at the time of signing with Sentech I had already waited 4 months for an ADSL connection and basically gave up with Telkom.

Ironically I have just "upgraded" my Telkom line to an ADSL line two weeks ago in preparation of the end of my NoWire contract. (And this time I waited just more than 4 working days for Telkom to do it! Quite an improvement)

As resellers, we were TOLD by the MD of NoWire that indeed the modem would belong to the customer at the end of 2 years, and I would like to apologise on behalf of all the resellers to customers who were "mislead" by resellers. We (the resellers) too were mislead and when we told customers that the modem would belong to them, this is what we understood to be true. The MD has since changed and NoWire's tune has now changed. I don't agree with it but unfortunately the decision is not mine to change.
