I dont have either consoles (/me gots a Wii anyways) but Sony is shutting down their music download site (competing with iTunes) saying "its a failure", their Blu-Ray stuff has been stabbed in the heart, their ongoing DRM and sneaking spyware in to Games.

I really doubt sony home can kill off Xbox live.

Do I think Home will shutdown Live? Absolutely not. I don't even see them as competing...

Home may have an adverse affect on games like Second Life but they have a hell of a long way to go before they can even do that.

Currently the Home world consists of 3 lobbies, 1 games room and an apartment. Really not much else. They have some grand plans but unfortunately they seemed to have over promised again.

Nothing has improved in the Home world since March this year and Microsoft is about to revamp the Live offerings again with a rumoured IPTV functionality...

Home is a social experience in itself while Live is just a conduit to your online gaming and multimedia center... Sony will quickly realise that it is very expensive to run the online architecture and they will either have to start charging or scale down their ambitions...
 
What a retarded thread. Nope there is no chance, on the contrary XBL and Xbox might just kill the PS.

XBL is an excellent service, something MS actually got right for a change, well that and the Xbox. Anyway MS is a bigger beast than Sony is, MS has a lot more money behind it.

Money always wins :)
 
It was a question no argument here. Sony is still gonna make money from advertisements on home, and sony is also implementing playtv for ps3. This should be great when it comes! Xbox is hot, but ps3 is tryin some good competition, as far as systems an games. Home is gonna have theaters, alot more downloadable games. You will be able to walk up an talk to other gamers. They already got, a hot six person chatroom on ps3, so this will take the cake. firmware 2.0 hurry up!
 
PlayTV won't work in the States since you guys don't have terrestrial digital...

I agree with the adverts...

Why would I want to be able to walk up to other gamers when I can instantly connect through the power of the internet ;)

6 person chatroom? I don't see the point. Gears of war is like a 8 person chatroom :D

I was told that the US's terrerstrial digital is scattered and mainly city centric... So the guy in San Diego has it but the people in Dallas don't...

The US relies more on Cable and satelite... well that is what I was told anyway... basically the country is to damn big for real digital terestrial...

If you have anything that goes against that please feel free to jump in...

I'm sure you've heard of Google's interest in the upcoming auction of the 700mhz spectrum? This is because of the switch to exclusive digital terrestrial broadcasting by Feb 2009. Right now most markets have both analogue and digital.

I dont know where you got either of those facts, because blu-ray is winning the format wars. thanks in part to sony, maybe if xbox included a hd-dvd player, they would be competition. Blu-ray is far better, I just got the movie 300 looks better than the hd-dvd. My father has one, even he agrees that blu-ray is hot.

on youtube a guy in the states, shows how to get dvr service on ps3. You just cant do both, either play game or record. You can already download full feature movies for free on ps3. I have 12 movies on my hdd right now!

Yeah there's another plus point of the PS3, it's dead easy to swap out the HDD for a bigger one and you can use any 2.5" HDD. MS really has some retarded pricing on it's hard drives.
