Hi Guys,

thought to ask, how many here have a Custom Rom on their Phone?
good experiences? bad experiences?

Ill go First:
Ive got a Wileyfox Swift (generation 1) running CRDROID V4.2
one of the best roms I've come across, very regular updates, at least once a fortnight (2 weeks).
Lineage OS based, and works pretty well, does confuse some apps, that show Unknown Phone but works brilliantly most of the time.

only issue, is on the early versions you had to do a wipe, in order to not get frequent crashing on apps,
also some things were very slow to be updated, and sometimes it was launched without a Launcher included (oops)

and my other phone:
Samsung s4 Mini 3g, I9190 running Unicorn ROM Oreo based lineage OS
Surprising everything works Including the IR Sensor, despite being an older Samsung, it actually runs Oreo quite smoothly,
just goes to show you even an older phone can be kept going with updates and Improvements,

only reason they dont update officially more phones, is how will they make money?
as if you on an older Samsung, you deal with the hanging and crashing until you eventually toss it and buy another Phone,

when it was perfectly salvageable, and able to run the latest O/S without too much issues.

On my G3 I had the latest Fullmics Rom, worked like a dream.

got to ask the noob question?

how easy/Hard was it to get its bootloader unlocked?
as Ive heard horror stories of LG phones being very difficult to do,

in actual fact my Wileyfox was pretty hard to do that part, with its ADB commands and trying to load TWRP

so would love to know how you fared.

I've always run Custom Android on all of my phones, even the ones that didn't ship with android.

Ran a Samsung Rom on my LG for a year because the hardware was great but the software sucked, integrated the 3D into the Samsung ROM without a problem.

I can't say I've had bad experiences because I know how to fix the problems when they come up, and I format my phone almost twice a month, and when I get a rom that's not happy I format about twice a week. I'm so used to restoring things It's no issue for me anymore.

I ran Lineage OS on my Note 5 for a day, didn't like the modem and kernel, the battery drain was intense. So I tried to modify the kernel to a note 8 oreo kernel which stuffed the ROM so I went back to my DR Ketan rom.

Currently running a Note 5 N920c with a Rom which is ported from an S8+ with Note 5 features integrated, with a Note 8 modem and an N920T kernel which adjusts the deep sleep differently.
Currently getting about a day and a half of battery with medium usage. If I don't touch my phone it lasts the whole weekend.

I will never be able to run a stock Rom on anything as it is stupid slow with waay to much bloat and the battery doesn't last

On my LG G3 it was easy as long as you know what you are doing, but it is unlocked via the Adb shell and pushing the recovery, not like Samsung with Odin.

Did a friend of mine's G3 via teamviewer when he was in CPT

Was very easy on the G3, it has a huge following still and there are plenty Roms to try but I always went back to Fulmics.

you must really be quite versed to be able to do it via teamviewer,
I struggled so much with my Wileyfox its not even funny, but I suppose you only really need to do it once,

not like its necessary to unlock it again? to load different boot loader unlocks?
as I sometimes think you need to update that? or am I wrong completely?

as an example, mine was done for Version 7.11 android, but here I am running Oreo,
will I ever have to go through it again?

Yeah, I've been doing android and flashing Roms before they had cute names. Flashed Android Beta (2.0) onto an HTC diamond which was a demo model that didn't actually have android loaded on but rather a "demo" video that shows how the OS worked. That was fun.

I've ran Alpha's and Beta's of Android as daily drivers ever since Android started. The most fun was flashing a new Rom around the campfire at a clan camp we had a few years back, got my new phone (Note 3) on the way to the camp. Took it out the box, booted into download mode and flashed the rom, it never started with the standard ROM.

Once you have unlocked your bootloader and flashed a custom recovery like TWRP, you don't need to do that again unless you somehow overwrite the recovery.
Going from Mashmellow to Oreo, you would need to load the correct kernel and modem for your phone and rom version, and do a Dalvik and cache wipe from the recovery, once thats done you should be fine.

If you do an OTA that is for an official ROM, they will always overwrite the recovery, or not work due to a custom recovery, in that case you have to do it again of course

Running CRDroid 3.8.3 on my LG G2. I remember managing to unlock the bootloader and installing a custom-recovery 45min after opening the box back when I got it. Was not hard after following instructions on XDA.

I am waiting for the devs to finalise the Oreo-based ROM.

its probably already come out, did you check?
there is usually a lineage OS version before a CRdroid version.

hmmm, I have an old S4 mini lying around doing nothing... maybe I should give this a shot. How easy is it ?

quite easy, I used this Rom currently, works like a charm, once TWRP is loaded,
you do need the latest version for oreo based rom to work though,

I also tried this rom: but did have issues when recording videos:

Yep there is a LOS version but it has issues with 3G/2G etc.

oh dear, sorry about that, my old phone was in that box, samsung galaxy pocket
everything worked, except the FM radio,

but I suppose thats part of the fun with android ROMs and modding phones these days.

I've tried various roms over the years and my favourite was AICP and currently Resurrection Remix.. Both are really amazing with lots of features and options

I loved my customs roms, until FNB disabled login with fingerprint on rooted devices.

Couldn't get magisk to function properly either.

My first time was on the Motorola Defy, then the Xperia P, then the Samsung S4, then the LG G4 just kicked me in the nads and I couldn't. With the Nokia 8 I don't feel like I need to as it's almost 100% pure Android.

cant you just use it the old way, ie without using the fingerprint?
and why dont you ask if FNB can adjust the app to support rooted roms?
what about a older version of the FNB app does that work? (get one via apkmirror)

as mine works brilliantly, and Ive been on a rooted device since 2013.
but admittedly, no fingerprint/NFC sensor on mine.

I'm an extremely lazy person. And I use the app quite a bit. They support rooted roms. Just without the fingerprint functionality.

I use to mostly use root for hacking offline games etc. Don't play any games on my phone now...

Anyone here running a custom OS on a Samsung Galaxy S6? I got a used one recently but the battery is absolutely horrible even after changing it out for a new (generic) battery.. Tried a couple of roms but think I need to dig a bit deeper with sleep cycles etc
