Skype works fine on ISDN. I talk regularly with family in Scotland. Quality does improve if they initiate the call.

Im not an ADSL user, and will not be, untill prices become resonable.

I mean for Pete's sake even your
connection monitor in windows counts
the bytes sent and received.

When (and if) I get reconnected it will be for the cheapest (that makes me laugh) option I can get.

btw, anyone know how to track down a phone number? I can't get ahold of previous owners to get the old (now disconnected) number. I am not looking forward to trying to explain this to a Telkom helpdesk operator

Telkom would not be in a position to measure your analog bandwidth consumption without software on your machine or info from your ISP.

On the tracker of data/usage, forget what all the service providers keep going on about, every packet you send or receive, regardless of your connection type, can be tracked straight back to your account via your IP address. Telkom claiming you can't distinguish between local and international is also utter cr@p, as I said they know exactly where every single packet goes.

Just ask all those poor yanks sued by the RIAA.

At the end of the day if you change ISP's it does not make a diffrence, Telkom still carry the local loop as well as the International Fiber and you have to go through Telkom for Satellite services so they make money from you Directly / Indirectly always ! It like a bad dream you cannot get away from !

I downgraded earlier today from 1mbit to 192kb/s. Also too expensive, plus the way I download, in one day my cap would be reached with a 1mbit. Luckily I'm not paying for my ISP so R270 a month, is just fine for me. R680 though...I'm missing out on DSTV because of that. Now DSTV will be installed in my home...AT LAST.

Cancelled mine three weeks after installation - happily back on ISDN (thank goodness I did not cancel my ISDN line) being able to do what I need to without having to worry about caps and shaping. Yeah, it cost me, but I will rather take the knock now than have to fight for every scrap of bandwidth.

It have come down in R per Gig. The difference will now be you will pay per Gig, Get charged international rates for local surfing and content due to the hard cap, and will not be able to use P2P, VoIP, gaming, heavy downloading as the shaping will kill those uses. So You will have a high speed broadband teletext service for e-mails, browsing, reading news maybe and thats it everything else will cost a arm and a leg unless you are a @ld f@rt using broadband for only those services

my contract expires next year jan so i`ll keep it.but not signing any new contracts with dem coz im leaving da contry in April and my bro tells me he got broadband and gets speeds of up to 24Mb/s and pays less den R300 per month.b4 i go over im goig to send telkom an email telling them they sud take their DSL and stick it up der arse
