Why are the stadiums so empty?

Those who deserve it must have the ban hammer fall on them. There's a known troll here named DeadCore... if you are going to lobby then do so fairly not only those you disagree with. In fact DreamKing too tends to only troll and doesn't add anything to threads.

It is not for me to decide, I'm sure the mods will decide how long they will tolerate the rooster this time.

As a volunteer we were initially under the impression that it would be purely voluntary. It was then decided that we would get a R100 stipend for each day worked and meals provided.

The security guys are a separate issue as they are not volunteers but paid staff. It is apparently a private security firm that was called in to provide security. I cannot comment on what they are saying was promised but in the excerpts of interviews they all seem to be quoting difference amounts and hours. The amount would never have been in dollars though as it would have been arranged by the local organising committee.

Cool - I think the dollar amount came in because that's the standard amount that FIFA pays (or so it seems) and FIFA works in dollars. If you multiply that amount by the exchange rate you seem to get pretty close to the R1500 that the guards thought they were due.

Not on any crusade here - just trying to understand why folk were getting shot at down your side of SA.

Actually it turns out the stadium is sold out when you actually see the facts. For someone extremely skeptical about the government you aren't very skeptical about what you read as long as it's talking about doom and gloom. Correct, a friend of mine drove up from Durbs on thursday night... parked his car at the stadium at 11am, and made it to his seat by 2:30pm... maybe he was n00bing out, but he said the crowd was impossible to navigate...

I had a struggle to pass the fan parks. So when I caught the last few minutes i thought well there goes some people's money for the opening since they will either catch the last few minites or have to watch a re run.

Traffic was generally bad around Joburg. Personally I underestimated the time to get to the park and rides. From Conhil Park n Ride, the BRT took 45min to the stadium. Coming back from Soccer City was OK.
