Why can Vodacom not fix their system

We are aware of this, but some of us do not want a top-up contracts. All I want is a contract on which I can add-on a data bundle and if it it completed I want the choice if I want to continue using OOB rates or buy a new bundle.

If Telkom can provide this to their customers surly Vodacom can also.

I would prefer that myself but this is the best solution I have found thus far. Sounds like you should port to Telkom.

I have aTop up contract with a feature that allows me to add airtime by using *100*04*randvalue# so I can buy airtime immediately and it gets billed to my contract account. It is a bit inconvenient at times but beats huge data accounts or having to go out and buy airtime. I think it is called auto top up but customer care should know how to set it up.

That doesn't protect you from OOB rates though, if your data runs out while you have available top up money it'll charge you at OOB rates.

True, but I get a warning that my data is going to run out even when I am in a session so I am aware it is happening. It's interesting that this feature only works on the Top up and pay as you go plateform and not on billed contracts platform.

I do not have a good Telkom signal at home, but I am testing Cell C ATM.

Surely there's something out there that solves the OP's problem?

a) time for vodacom to get of their hands and come up with a solution
b) time for vodacom to let go of the oob money making trap
c) just cut the bollox
d) all of the above

That OOB Shark is basically theft from uninformed clients, and no effort is made to stop it for many years.

But this shark has come back and chomped them where it hurts most - may the 'Please call me' guy enjoy his R10 Billion !

Karma, shees a beeech you know ;-)

Prepaid is the only solution.

That...

Or a dual sim phone with a Telkom contract sim for data at 1GB for R59 or 2GB at R99pm (can disable or enable OOB on the website)

Or some 7" to 10" tablet in your backback/laptop bag with a Telkom sim as above, acting as a wifi hotspot (much longer battery life than those mifi things, mine can last 2 full days between charges) with a small data bundle for when you are out of its reach.

Mifi is a cheaper option though.

A nice LTE once costs R2000ish, just slightly less than a tablet with LTE might, and as said, 2 days battery life vs 8 hours and can be used to for other things like watching movies and stuff if one wants...

Don't think I've ever seen a tablet with LTE around R2000. I have this http://www.takealot.com/huawei-e5372-lte-mobile-wifi/PLID32837763 - R120/month with a 1gb sim.

Realistically I don't think you're going to get 2 days out of a tablet hammering its data connection.

Not available anymore I think, but I have a Huawei T1 8" with 1GB Telkom for R89pm and it can roam on MTN.

You are probably correct, maybe only 36 hours... mine was unplugged 6am and is now on 64%. And your mifi lasts how long with a hammered data connection?

Also explain how one can burn through half a gig of data while going to work.... and why data seems to run out faster at the end of the month.
