Why can't Capitec reverse an Online payment?

WTF

Ever heard of "name and shame"?
Yes I have. I've also been online long enough to know I've made a real rookie mistake today. I'm still communicating with these people. It won't help if I flame them right now. If the refund isn't processed, then it's a different story. The product is a knock off. That's the issue. The fact that it will actually be delivered is not the problem. It's just a very cheapskate version of it.

Just out of curiosity
Any progress /luck on this reversal?
Hi Antelope,

Strangely enough I received a few phone calls from Capitec after this.
They advised me to stop my card and get a replacement card, which I did.
They also explained to me that the funds are in a pending state, which means the funds are not cleared at the recipient and that it should automatically reverse in about 7 to 14 days if it was not refunded as they said it would be.

I'll wait for the refund. If nothing is processed I'll have to contact the bank again. They however confirmed that they are unable to reverse the transaction though.

Just an update. Received the refund this morning (or yesterday, or over the weekend, unsure really). Phoned Capitec since today is the 10th day and I didn't receive an sms to say the funds have cleared. The Capitec App showed the Transaction has been refunded and the balance is correctly updated.

Thanks to Capitec for treating me professionally and willing to assist me and explaining the process to me.
Because this company didn't process the payment I was able to get refunded. I had to get a new card though, to avoid them banking the funds in future.

All is well at the end.

Double check what you buy in future |tera|, stop being a n00b.

It's a scammer. I thought best to contact my bank. If I could get a reversal, it would resolve the matter.

Normal card.

I did request a refund. Standard response was given. Refund will be processed in 7 to 10 days. So it's a waiting game. It's a definite scam. As I said above. If I could get a reversal it would resolve the issue for me. I don't know what a charge back is.
I mistakenly send an EFT amount of R3000, I phoned the bank immediately but they said they cannot do Anything.
It's my money, haibo. If I owed that person the money and he refused to refund it's understandable. But capitec says my money is gone .WTF.

Your only hope is the recipient bank nothing capitec can do. All banks will treat this the same. It says check the number you ignore you hit send...

It's my money the recipient should be honest. Our country crime rate is so high, therefore Money effortlessly is a gain. Soon in order to reduce scams, if the recipient request for a reversal the bank should do it in order for scammers not to benefit.

Which scammers? You sent the money.

Imagine you receive legit payment and next thing it's reversed.

Majority are scammers when recipients request for reversal. There is a valid reason why reversals are requested.

The whole concept of bank details and typing them wrong is so easily fixable yet nobody bothers.

Just let every person generate a QR code for bank details that every banking app can scan and pay to.

It’s so simple and will resolve the entire problem.

You can verify the recipient account...for a fee. Always an opportunity for the banks somewhere.

Crime rate is so high because of careless people like you. You guys make it easy for the criminals so they keep coming back for more.

Its your mistake, Yes Capitec is a crap bank but this is all on you.

Or you could go to an ATM, ''deposit'' R20 and the ATM shows you the recipients details, once you have them cancel the deposit and get your money back.

It's a balance between time, effort required and money.

True true. Or you could jut send R3000 to an unknown account and hope for the best.
Or, pay the small fee for verification. However if you find yourself at an ATM with some cash, your way will probably also be a good choice.
