Why buy a console? In a while a newer version would come out and then you have to spend a lot of money all over again. Where with a pc, you only need to upgrade it.

buying a console like the 360 or the ps3 you will not have to buy a new one for at least 4 years. if not longer. and you know all the games you buy for it will work 100%

a pc needs continuous upgrades to keep up with the specifications of the latest games.
in 4 years, i guarantee you that you could have bought a console 5 times over with the money spent on the pc.

Consoles have on average a lifespan greater than 5 years. In that time you'd by spending FAR more money upgrading to play the newest games.

Consoles are simplistic and accessible to even the most non-tech savvy people since no installing is required and a gamepad is easier to come to grips with than a keyboard and mouse.

EDIT: kevin beat me to it :p

It depends on what you use your PC for. Mine was purely for gaming with some movies thrown in and a ton of music.

I used to be a PC gamer until I had to buy another upgrade for the graphics, update my RAM, get a dual core to run the game faster etc etc. This to play 1 game. Even after I completely covered all the recommended requirements, the game was a dog
Too many glitches, a cheap and nasty port of a console game to PC - Gears of War.

So I decided, no more running around trying to get the latest grafix card and why bother with a port when I can get the game at point of origin as it was intended.

So now I own a 360 and I laugh at the people who pay R1000's for the latest grafix card to play the latest game.

One thing to note for PC gamers, the hardware is following the software, there are no boundaries for graphics, it will only become more and more realistic and more expensive cards will be required.

With a console, there are boundaries, they have to code better in order to get the best out of the machine. Have a look at the specs for the 360 and compare it to a top of the line PC.

As for the old mouse and keyboard argument...ugggh...adapters are available.

You're kidding, right? Paying +- R4000 every 5 years for a console or paying +- R10 000 every 3 years for a new PC...

Yes... But consoles generally don't have keyboards. Or mices.

As per cerebus: Captain obvious strikes again.

I had the same decision to make 2 months ago - was I gonna upgrade my PC or get the Xbox360.

After much advice and deliberation - I got the console and am so pleased I did :D

I've gone from PCs to consoles and I prefer. I do, however, get annoyed with different versions of each.

We've got reliable/unreliable Xboxs ... some that are quieter due to different hardware ... others have HDMI while most don't ... different size HDDS ... URGH!

On the other side we have cut down versions of PS3 & different controls ...

Gone are the days of "I have a Playstation" and its not 'what version? quiet one? new controls?"

Both are acceptable terms for the PC component.

yes both are acceptable, mice is more commonly used according to google, but mouses is more correct

MOUSE is an acronym, and is short for Manually-Operated User-Selection Equipment so technically MOUSE is already the plural. Most people, however pluralise acronyms and initials in general, by adding an s, so it would be MOUSEs. Mice is more wrong, as it doesn't stand for anything.

Why didn't you say this in your initial post? :D

Your initial post said that "mice" is wrong.

Anyway, yes I agree with you (your second post at least ;)).

I disagree with this, if PC manufacturers kept to the same socket/chip layout sure but nothing on my 3 year old PC is upgradeable (except for maybe the case). You can't infact buy S939 AMD A64 chips anymore without paying through the nose.
