This neat fiber install came with this hub. Is the router not compatible? Can I remove it? How do you rate this installation. It is not my house, but family.

Openserve fibre. Capacity leased to Frogfoot. Requires a dedicated ONT under the control of Frogfoot hence the extra module.

Optical Network Termination. That belongs to the fibre service provider, in this case, Frogfoot. The white box simply terminates the physical optical fibre cable. And provides a simple patch point, which is the yellow fibre cable.

Also I'm not sure why that blue patch lead does not go directly into the router? What is the point of that little black device standing on the ground?

I think with "neat" he meant "lekker"..."cool"..."shweet"....at least I hope so.
If they tried to install it like that in my house, I would have told them to fuk off...
But these technicians don't give a schit in general.
I once installed ducting in a new office and provided dual face plates with ports en keystones for IT and phones...the PBX installers glued their extensions on top of the ducting with little glued on box terminations.
Too lazy to open and close the ducting and punching into keystones...

Apologies. I did not pay any attention to that gizmo between the ONT and the router with its own power cord.

So it is basically this just really awkward design?
Is it even necessary? Probably depends how long the Ethernet cable is. But for such a short cable going to the router what is the point?

It's not a POE injector.. the router already has power running to it..

I understand that, this is why I do not understand why they did it this way. Maybe it is some sort of WiFi connector?

On the box is the word hub, therefore I mentioned hub, will get a box pic, the house is not new.
