The mikrotik in the pic just has the protective plastic peel on it, coupled with the angle of the pic, makes it look weird..

On the box is the word hub, therefore I mentioned hub, will get a box pic, the house is not new.

Haven't seen a hub in use since the late 1990's.

For those that don't know, a hub broadcasts to all ports and the destination will be the only one that will answer.

A switch is like a hub, but it has a few more brain cells. So it knows where the recipient is and only broadcasts to that port.

A router is like a switch but it can route traffic between networks (you isp and your home network for example)

Think of it like this:
A hub is like mail call during basics. The corporal has a bag of letters and calls out the name. Everyone hears but just you will answer and the letter goes to you.
A switch is like a mailroom deliver at a big company. The person delivering knows where your desk is and takes the letter to you. Everyone else in the office doesn't know you got a letter.
A router is like a courier that delivers a parcel to the front desk at your office. Then someone takes the package to your desk.

Ja I also feel rather stupid now. That "Hub" appears to provide more "ports" which I would have thought would have been included on the ONT? Does it also provide for a VoIP port?
What ports are available on the ONT itself?

I think its because its looking down on it. I think the mystery is why the white router is there... must be an old one they just connected so that so all the existing WIFI setup is there.
