Why do cops like to speedtrap at the same place every day?

They have their known notorious spots they like to trap. Why always the same place? I think we can all agree the goal is not law enforcement, it's money making and they could do a lot more of that if they simply moved the traps up and down, even by a few hundred metres on the same stretch of road. Is there some rule on this that says they have to pick a spot and stick with it?

they have to apply for permission to trap in specific locations.

lol, in the application they must even state the traffic direction they wish to monitor/ trap in. They may then not trap in the otherside.

And they must be located on the side of the road in which direction they monitor.

human monitored cameras should each have a calibration certificate. If the certificate was expired at the time of the fine, then the fine can be considered invalid.

Because obviously the people are too stupid to learn?

And actually yes, they have to get approval from the NPA first for a spot to be used, and the stretch of road should have the adequate signage.

So when they apply, are they allowed to choose places where they can hide themselves?
On Soutpansberg Road in Pretoria, they hide in a bus shelter and park their police vehicle in the Rietondale Lodge. If you aren't aware of this, then it will be too late to slow down in time.

If you are unable to read the road signs indicating speed limit, think of it as a illiteracy tax. Lots of time to slow down...

Doesn't bother me, I don't speed. Just interested to know whether hiding is a accepted and allowed practice.

I was told that the traffic department will identify places where people are known to speed or where there is a high risk for accidents due to people speeding.
It’s like supersunbird said; there should be no need for you to slow down if you adhere to the speed limits.

I understand that and don't disagree with the need for calming the speed down on that stretch of road. But what I don't understand is whether is it ok for them to hide what they are up to?
Personally I would love to see fixed cameras on the road as the Putco buses and taxis seem to think its any speed they like.

I don’t like permanent cameras. People tend to brake hard when they are close to them even when they are within the speed limit. I hope the taxis and busses are not exempted from being issued a fine.

On the R21, idiots even brake hard for the temp cameras. Annoys the hell out of me.

When I hit the freeway, I set cruise control at 128km and off I go. Camera pops out of nowhere, and the idjut in front of me brakes to 90 - even though he was doing same speed as me.

If it was actually about speeding and not making money they would all be clearly visible instead of hiding in the bush.

After all when you can see them nobody speeds. When you can't everyone speeds.

Where is the safety concern if the objective is only to pay money after the fact?

Is the purpose of a fine not to encourage you to obey the law?

No, then you know where they are for that 100m and then behave and then 180km/h comes back...

Which is why average speed cameras are much better, but then of course there is the crowd that detests them for some reason.

Yeah and that's working very well isn't it...

Even in the first world speed cameras are nothing more than a money maker and do very little to lower average speeds.

And even then they will do more than they currently do, as people obviously don't care otherwise we wouldn't see do many stories about fines.
