This is a ridiculous fee. With Capitec it's totally free.

It's not even like I'm using the pay as you go banking product.

And it's totally online, this must cost them absolutely nothing for this microtransaction.

So now I have to get them to send each monthly statement by email, and archive them myself, so I don't have to pay in case I need a statement from a month ago

Dont like the fee change your bank, its not a hidden fee. You might not like it but it is what it is...

Nothing is free, including the systems that serve statement downloads. All costs are in the end paid by the clients, so the only question is how does your bank recover the costs.

Some itemise. Some hide the cost elsewhere.

Because they can.

Now download a digitally certified statement.

Or try viewing more than 3 months bank statements.

Easy money making costing zero effort. Passive income for the bank.

By charging you R10 when you download a bank statement.

Still a good question. Only banks do this.

Not sure why the question is not allowed to be asked and warrant such a response?

Maybe work on a technical response, because it is really quite idiotic.

Also why only limit you to view 3 months of transactions? Its really dumb.

Imagine Takealot or your ISP made you pay to view your invoices, or even transaction history for the past 12 months. Yet banks are allowed to do it. (Absa anyways).

They don't even allow you to send an email or CSV every month to yourself anymore. You have to manually download it no later than 3 months from the last one to keep track of your transaction history.

Just IMAGINE your client had the option to have their statement emailed to them every month, or at least every 3 months (due to their limit emposed). Age of technology. Wow! But nope. Gotta get your money honey.

Obviously it is just a small coding limit so they can make you pay for something that requires almost zero effort or resources.

FNB, Capitec and Standard Bank the same?

They good at sending you a lot of spam, adverts and other crap that actually takes up resources and man power.

No I can go back to when I opened the account in 2013 and download a statement for free.

Which makes sense! The data is there. The infrastructure didn't go anywhere. They already cover all their operating costs by loans, investments and transactions. L

Technically it is idiotic. Unless someone working for Absa can give a very good explanation justifying something so utterly stupid.

Imagine I charged my clients to view email more than 3 months old. Doesn't cost me a cent extra as the emails have been on the server for the past 15 years.

Lol, you make it sounds like they running a loss. Thst is not to cover costs. It's to boost proffit above costs. Again, the only entities that does it.
remember South Africa has some of the highest Bank fees in the world,
all the Security and CIT vans and all the rest of it have to be paid somehow,

so they Nickel and Dime you for dumb things like statements.
