Scenario: I'm driving on the highway, at normal speeds. Someone wants to drive faster. There's a lane open on my left, a lane open on my right. Which one do you think 90% of South African drivers choose?

It really gets on my nerves, I wanna keep billboards in my car to flash at these *******s.

Because everyone drives slow in the right lanes. Keep to the left, then they won't overtake on the left. Logic 101.

Simple rule. Keep left. Pass right. Why sit in the middle lane when the left one is open?

Exactly; Why was there space to your left? You should have been in it.

When people of south africa get the memo that if cars are passing you left and right, there's 99% you're in the wrong damn lane!

This goes double for ppl in their mercs, beemers, hummers and anything else that's flash doing 60 in the fast lane...

If theres enough space to overtake you on the left why are you not in the left lane?

Define "normal speed"
The speed limit is an actual limit, not a suggestion or a guideline. I drive close to or on it.

I don't sit in the right-hand lane. Like I said this is when you have clear lanes on the left and the right - people seem to prefer overtaking on the left!

I agree with the OP. It's keep left pass right. If he is in the middle lane i.e. to the LEFT of the fast lane, there is no excuse to pass him on the left lane. It's not "keep left, pass left or right".

FYI. A few months ago Cape Talk spoke to high ranking traffic official and one of the things that came up was this.

Even if you are travelling in the right lane at a legal 120km/h and someone comes up behind you (speeding) you have to move over by law. If you do not the person is allowed to flash there lights at you.

You know how many times I drive along the N1 and both the left and middle lane are open, but some idiot is sitting in the right lane cruising along at 100km/h. Then they don't move over when you get there. Well then I do overtake them on the left to make a point. :)

That is why my "stupid should HURT" sticker is on my right hand back window... more chance of "idiot boy" seeing it...

(3) The driver of a vehicle on a public road shall, except in the circumstances referred to in the first proviso to subregulation (1), upon becoming aware of other traffic proceeding in the same direction and wishing to pass his or her vehicle, cause his or her vehicle to travel as near to the left edge of the roadway as is possible, without endangering himself or herself or other traffic or property on the roadway, and shall not accelerate the speed of his or her vehicle until the other vehicle has passed.

hahaha whatever mate, next you'll be telling us to hand over the R66k for an electric bill handed out by the council just because some oke said that it's the law. I won't be moving out of the way for any of you mofos who come screaming up behind me flashing your lights when I'm driving 120km/h in the fast lane..

The other issue is that because people all pass on the left, it makes it rather hard for a slow guy in the right/middle to pull over.

What is this slow guy doing in the middle or right lane to begin with? You KNOW you're slow, so instead of making things easy for yourself and everyone else, you'll stall up the other two lanes...
