Why does everyone overtake on the left?

hahaha whatever mate, next you'll be telling us to hand over the R66k for an electric bill handed out by the council just because some oke said that it's the law. I won't be moving out of the way for any of you mofos who come screaming up behind me flashing your lights when I'm driving 120km/h in the fast lane..

THIS is why we pass on the left...

Well you should, its the law

Scenario: I'm driving on the highway, at normal speeds. Someone wants to drive faster. There's a lane open on my left, a lane open on my right. Which one do you think 90% of South African drivers choose?

It really gets on my nerves, I wanna keep billboards in my car to flash at these *******s.

If you're being passed on the left, you shouldn't be on the right.

Some cars also don't have the torque that others do. So if I'm in the middle lane, I can't overtake right because I don't have the power to speed up quick enough. The douche in the middle is going 60, and I'm forced to overtake from the left. I avoid left lane overtaking but sometimes I refuse to get stuck behind some tool.

Well there's just zero respect for the speed limit which is a separate but related point. Lawlessness around here is ridiculous.

Random example: people who creep over the line at a red robot - you'll never see people in Europe doing this, they'll fine you!

But what if it's a genuine emergency? You have no idea why the person is driving so fast and flashing hir lights - move out the way, if you can...

they also fine you in europe when you hog the wrong lanes.

the hypocrisy is strong with you.

Or pass on the left, and by "left" I mean inside the yellow lines... or creep over the line at a red robot, and by "creep over the line" I mean drive straight through red robots and then hurl abuse at you if you even consider hooting at them as they flash by.

This is probably the same dude that doesn't move outta the way to let ambulances and emergency vehicles through too...

The person in the high speed vehicle behind you could be a doctor, a medic, a plain clothes cop or Like someone trying to get to a hospital because I dunno wife's having in labour, they got shot / stabbed / swallowed (let's just say swallow for now) something marked "for external use only". It's not important really other than: They're just someone who's only real offence is trying to get somewhere faster than you were or are trying to.

If you're overpoweringly curious (and envious) as to "How Can They Get Away With It", then simply drive faster and see for yourself.

Or just move out the way and let it pass and don't let embroiled in the situation being a vigilante which is what being stubborn and sticking in the faster lane really is. South Africans are awfully nosey and want to be involved in every little thing despite it being none of their business.

Like when the same sort of idiots who blockade the faster lanes, decide to rubber-neck at accident scenes... Same thing: If you're so interested in the moral wellbeing (going to teach some people a lesson about speeding) and the physical health (gawking at accident scenes) of your fellow motorists then next time get out and actually help clean up the blood and guts.

But get off the road first cause you're CLEARLY not interested in driving your car to get somewhere.

EDIT: Sorry wasn't a rant at you Lycanthrope but at others who act as road hogs and armchair traffic cops.

Says the guy travelling in the right lane whilst the left lane is free

Precisely. When we all obey the law 100% (stop dead at every stop street, stick to posted limits, even if it's 30km/h, overtake only on the right, always use indicators, etc.), we can complain about the "law breakers" all we want. If you break the law yourself, what makes you better? "My crime isn't as bad!" Bullsh#t!

Ugh  I'm not doing the whole "I ain't giving way to you, because my speedo says I don't have to" argument. The long & short of it is if I want to drive at 130km/h, it is my prerogative to do so; it is not yours to police me. You thinking that it is makes you a considerably bigger arse than what I am, and it leaves your action legally equally indefensible.

If it's safe for you to be in any lane to the left of you, you should be in it. If you aren't, you're a poephol.
