Why does Fibre work out to be so drastically cheaper than ADSL

Copper is is very vulnerable and thus expensive to maintain.
Telkom fibre operates over it's IPC network. It is therefore identical in costing to an ISP as copper-based xDSL.
Localised fibre providers however charge a much lower rate for traffic on their network as they target low-hanging fruit areas and operate on a more efficient costing model. If they were tasked with rolling out national broadband and last mile services their prices would increase, although I maintain IPC remains overpriced...

For interest sake, is Crystal Web looking at becoming an ISP for fibre clients?
Becoming? We already provision over Telkom, Vuma to be released soon and other providers, we already offer the best fibre to the business, and we are moving forward with our FTTH project-based deployments through http://fibrenetwork.co.za/
Fibre is our game...

Ahh awesome, why are you not with Fibrehoods as well if I may ask?
But I thought that all last mile fibre suppliers use Telkom's IPC to get data from one point to another locally? Who else could they use?

Why do they need to break into Telkom's last mile network when they have built their own?
I thought IPC was Telkom's network that was used for transferring data between 2 points in SA. Oops. So do these ISPs use big fibre companies like DFA to do that?

No, IPC is Telkom's product for connecting to the last mile. Other providers simply use their own last mile or where it comes to backhaul they use either their own network or dedicated links from other suppliers. You might be thinking of TCP/IP which is a network protocol used to transmit data, I dunno.
