Hi, I have been battling with the control panel that controls all my domains for some time. It keeps on logging me out when I try to works.

We now discovered that the possible cause is that my IP keeps on changing. Please have a look below, can anybody explain to me why my IP keeps on changing like this and what can I do to stop it. Please note that this is while I am connected the whole time, this is NOT a connect disconnect situation, look at the times and you will see.
Hi Pieter,

Can you explain why you appear with different IP's on reconnect? your ISP must change it if you have no knowledge of it, please check into this with them and ask why your IP keeps changing so often and this might be your cause of problems you have.

Ip

O ja, my 3G sim's number is 0795156006 and as far as I could establish I get my signal from the Mykanos tower in Langebaan

Don't know why that would be happening - maybe a proxy issue, but which APN are you using?

Who is your sevice provider?? You need to contact them.

First of all what is a APN?
Vodacom is my service provider, so I hope that Mr 3G would be able to assist :D

You are most likely using the default [searchforum]APN[/searchforum], i.e. the [searchforum]"internet APN"[/searchforum], perhaps try the [searchforum]"internetvpn APN"[/searchforum].

Also, have a look at the sticky threads in this forum.

Ja, I checked those. I see there is people who wants an unrestricted APN, people whos APN does not work, there are things called a VPN, but still I have not clue what an APN is. Do I also have one?

It is a setting in your software - either the phone / PC or router... depends on the brand of modem / phone / router you are using to connect.

As far as I know & have seen that the Internet APN has a 10.x.x.x ip range and the internetvpn APN has 196.x.x.x ip range. So he must then be on the internetvpn APN. Is it possible that his link might be dropping and reconnecting without him even seeing it happen, and due to this happening he get's a change in IP number?

The IP's shown by pietpetoors is on the server side. This would therefore probably be after the NATting by Vodacom.

My theory:
To preserve public IP's Vodacom probably does a many(private addresses) to few (public addresses) NAT.
When you connect to the Internet the 10.x.x.x address is NATtted to a 196.x.x.x IP address. This link between your Internal and External IP is valid only for a short time to preserve the amount of public addresses needed by Vodacom.
When the connection is idle the public IP address is made available to someone else. When you use the connection again, the NAT is build from scratch and you may get a new IP.
It's likely that this is a UDP application, therefore the timeout will be very short.

Switching to InternetVPN (or Unrestricted) APN may solve this problem since no NAT is done on this APN.

APN. It stands for Access Point Name. This is the name that you use in your profile from the Dashboard software. internet or internetvpn. If you are using the VMC dashboard it is done automatically. If you go to settings APN you can then set it up manually.

Apn

OK, how do I change that?
I just use the standard Huawei USB modem they gave me.
The software's model is Huawei version number HOST20.11.04.01.00.19

I see under settings/network connection setting is a profile thing where they mention something of a APN.

I have no clue as to how to set this up.
If one of you could please have a look at the image at:
http://www.pietpetoors.com/vodacom_err.jpg
That is the screen I see. Please tell me what to fill in at which field, then I can try it and see if it works.

At the moment it looks like:
http://www.pietpetoors.com/vodacom_err_now.jpg and I cannot change anything
unless I press the "new" button and start from scratch.
Have you called 155 yet? - if not best to use the internetvpn links I posted earlier, if are are already provisioned for the internetvpn APN, then you need to click on the New button and create a new profile, maybe give it a Profile Name like 'Vodacom internetvpn APN' and then use the same settings as the existing profile, except a static APN set to internetvpn.

IP changing

OK, Warwick helped me to change to the InternetVPN thingy.
But now my host says the following:
Hi Pieter,
Have you got any answer form Vodafone regarding your connection? From logs i still see you switching IP's ... and now seems your behind a firewall either your PC or from their end since your unable to display the reply data properly and instead you get timeout but at end you get the proper result.

I do not have a firewall on my PC, even disabled windows firewall, so the firewall he talks about must be on Vodacom side.

And this is what a tracert to one of my sites looks like

You will get one IP that's static for the duration of the connection. These are dynamically assigned (like DHCP) and the next time you connect, you will get a different IP.

The log that Piet posted shows the server seeing two different IP's very close together in time. I can see 2 obvious possibilities:

1) Frequent disconnects and automatic reconnects - but then why are the same IP's assigned. So it does not look like a disconnect issue.

2) Piet was logged in from 2 different machines at the same time. Piet?

3) Something else, no idea what though.
