Why does IP keeps on changing?

I do not think that would be easy to do. See if I click refresh on the page and by the time it reloads I click refresh again, that is the time that the IP change. So if I see the IP is different on the web site and then open cmd and by the time I typed in ipconfig and hit enter it might not be the same anymore.

Anyway here is the test for now. I will test again this evening since it is usualy more unstable in the evening. I always use timeanddate.com time so that we can talk the same time all the time.

Must I say "no luck" or "happily" I refreshed the page 30 times now and the IP stayed the same (used all my bandwidth this month sorting out the problem)

I will test it this evening when it is more unstable or the moment I see that it is not working again.
 
Piet, as stated before we must look at your situation as two different problems.

1) The switching IP issue - Can you please use the internetvpn apn and see if this still occurs. I'm 99.99% positive it won't.

2) The FTP problem - As posted, there is a known problem (currently with the suppliers to resolve) that will give FTP problems.

So, lets try to isolate the two.

First, switch to the internetvpn apn and check if you see the cpanel problem again.

Essexman, if you can also test this?

Piet did say he tried the internetvpn (maybe in a PM) but still got the problem, but I'm beginning to suspect he got the FTP problem and not the cpanel one at that point.

Thus the need to isolate the two problems which have different causes but similar symptoms.

The 'IP switching' is to be expected within the setup of the internet apn but cannot happen on the internetvpn apn.

The problems we're seeing on FTP is on all apn's.

Ok at 20h12:30 my Ip changed again from 196.207.41.251 to 196.207.41.252 according to http://whatismyipaddress.com/
I already had ipconfig typed in my cmd line and just hit enter the moment I saw that in the browser, so there might have been a 1 or 2 second delay between the two measurements.

The data at ipconfig stayed the same:

I see you comments about isolating the problems. I am on the Internet VPN now and unless somebody explain how to get back to the previous thing I would stay on this one.

The thing is I experinced these problems when I was on the standard thing. I was then switched to the Internet VPN and I still have these problems.

I have said this previously as well: I found that if we have the ftp problem we also have the problem of being logged out the control panel on a secure server. Sometimes I am working on one a web site where I am uploading files and working in the control panel on the domain settings and I can see that the moment I get logged out, I can go and check the ftp and it is broken. And the moment the ftp stops I can go check the control panel and it logs me out.

At the moment at 20h24:20 it is giving problems again.
I have been working the whole day without problems. This normally happens at night.

That is why I originally suggested the internetvpn APN...

IMO pietpetoors needs to switch to using the internetvpn APN, and then re-run those whatismyipaddress tests, I would be very surprised if his IP address changes whilst on the internetvpn APN, as for the ftp issue, like you pointed out, that is a different problem.

@v3g, it sounds like a verbal internetvpn APN setup might be necessary.

piet, IC is right. You're on the internet apn and not the internetvpn apn.

You'll see you're local IP will change away from 10.x (showing you're on the internet apn) to 196.x when you're on the internetvpn apn.

Also, whtismyip will show the same address as on your PC when you're on the internetvpn apn and not the ones .251 .252 you're seeing currently.

This probably explains why you still see the problem, you've been on the internet apn all the time.

Please change it and retry. If you're battling to change it call 155 and let them walk you through it.

I have just helped pietpetoors to set up his system for InternetVPN. He was on internet apn. This all got changed when he downloaded and installed the VMC-Lite 2.2.2.1 from VC. He is now up and running. Unfortunately while we were testing he lost complete signal. He now get's network not found. His InternetVPN is fixed but now he needs his signal back. :) :)
 
3G problem

Thanks a MILLION for CSnoopy who just phoned me and helped me :D

With all the problems one day a guy from Vodacom support helped me to setup the InternetVPN. After that I still had problems and another day a guy from Vodacom support helped me to install the new drivers and stuff for my Huawei modem.

But it seems that after we installed the new drivers and stuff the modem went back to the APN settings and we never thought of changing it to VPN again after we installed the drivers.

Charles helped me to set it back to InternetVPN and now my IP in ipconfig is 196.46.175.108 and thanks to Charles' thorough explanation of how all of this work I will in future be able to see from the IP if I am on APN or VPN.

I also checked it at the whatismyip site and the IP there is the same as in ipconfig.
Thanx again Charles, let's see how it works now, I hope it will solve the problem.

Yes, I am still here. It is working better now. The couple of times when I still had problems it mostly went away after I killed vmclite and use Huawei's own control panel.

But ye, it is better, I can use it most of the time now.

Piet, can you please elaborate on "much better"?

1) Do you still see the problem where you get logged out from your remote server now that your using the internetvpn apn?

No, have not been logged out from the control panel again since we corrected the vpn settings.

I do have ftp problems occasionally. But it is little enough that I can try again later and it would work. It is the same problem where it starts to load a file and then freeze. So far I managed to get along by closing the FTP program (Total Commander) and restart the program and then it should work. The worst was where I had to restart the connection 3 times before it worked. Important thing is in the end it does work.

What sometimes also happen is when I start my pc in the morning and the Huawei control panel opened then it shows No Network. The first time I phoned Vodacom and they confirmed that they did not have network problems. So what I have to do now is plug out the modem, restart the pc and only plug the modem back in after it is all started up. Then it works. This only happens like every second or third morning.
