Can anyone explain why Mbeki supports Mugabe so unconditionally?

There seems to be no political gain for him? Do we know if there is some sort of financial gain?

The theory is that Mbeki's wife is related Mugabe's wife, or there is some other kind of link (somehow they are related, either by blood or by marriage)

Common interests: both hate whites.

mugabe helped the blacks during apartheid so i have heard

still not sure how helping us during bad times and destroying a country have anything in common

what mugabe is doing is worse than apartheid because he is doing it to his own ppl and is doing things way worse than our old government

also mbeki does not have a brain

Nobody knows what goes on in Mbeki's twisted mind. Anyway, his support for Mugabe is a disgrace and there's no doubt that his stance has damaged South Africa's credibility as a regional leader. It's a sad irony, considering South Africa's history of oppression, that it now supports oppression in Zimbabwe.

The ANC remains loyal to a lot of the countries who assisted them during the 'struggle'. A lot of ANC members lived in exile in Zim.

This is why you will not find the ANC ever openly criticising countries like Cuba or Libya. It is about loyalty.

I am not condoning their behaviour, just explaining it.

yea bluno but one in the ANC who does not think like that is jacob zuma

wish i had kept thata rticle in the citizen about him and mugabe

when are our elections? when does zuma become our president

i want to keep track of it

Read "Clash of Civilizations" for some insight into the matter. Political leaders virtually never align for or against anyone based on their policies or human rights record, they align based on cultural or religious affiliation. And common ideals, e.g. they also both hate whites, as was pointed out. I'm sure Mbeki would love to get rid of the whites too if he could just figure out a way to do it without causing too much suffering. (Imagine how embarrassing it must be for Mbeki to have to invite foreign African leaders to his African country to come meet in a place called "Pretoria" - it must give the impression the whites have the upper hand still.) I've also heard rumours relating to ownership of (diamond?) mines too in Zim / DRC etc., and that they might be related via a marriage somewhere along the line. They are friends.

Zuma will be pres next year. The odds of him being any better are not pretty low.

Hate is maybe not the correct description. Mbeki has had his share of white gf's. Maybe it was not about color, but availability and power.

That doesn't mean anything at all I'm afraid. I know some serious racists who have had black girlfriends too. In the case of high-status blacks, having a white women is partially an expression of one's ability to dominate over another 'tribe'/race - a white woman is a 'prize' to a black man, something that was previously out of bounds to them due to their 'lower status', and still is for most blacks.

Pointed out where?

I meant on this very thread, by Skinner (it's standard forum etiquette if you repeat something someone else already said, to try not give the impression you're the first to say it).

If you're asking where it's 'proven', there is more than enough of Mbeki's own words that demonstrate this even if he hides it well, and I know people who've worked closely enough with him who can also attest to it.

Mind elaborating?

For example he sometimes says things on his blog and elsewhere to the effect that all whites are still racists and that blacks continue to live constantly being insulted by the whites etc. ... he is careful to be subtle about it, but the underlying message is very clear, he is sowing the seeds of hatred against whites and portraying them as the enemy. He also has openly allowed similar and worse comments from his own cabinet, and has also never ever spoken out against such comments when they occur (e.g. statements that 'all whites are criminals', recent cut-throat gestures seen in parliament, Ivy's racist comments, Ngaqula's obviously racist comments, etc.). They've also endorsed and allowed comments such as Mokaba used to make, and like Malema and Vavi make these days (Vavi has been openly and publicly anti-white for years - now yes that is COSATU, but his comments enjoy full support from ANC ... and COSATU is frikkin huge anyway, and they keep openly stating that whites continue to oppress blacks, that whites are oppressors, etc.). They also never seem to speak out against public comments calling for the murder of whites by the likes of Phat Joe or songs like the Zubz one. And they also are actively covering up the genocide of Boers - please do read some of the "reports" they've produced on the issue of farm murders, and some of the comments made by e.g. Xingwana. These people are all chosen and led by Mbeki (except for the members of the public I mentioned, but the government appears to endorse their racism so long as it's against whites). Mbeki's government has also at times blamed whites for being behind crime, for the electricity problems, and for being behind the xenophobia attacks.

And if this is how these people speak and behave in public, just imagine for a moment how they converse in private.

As for the personal connections, I can't elaborate on that.

Of course it's so easy to not see a storm coming if you don't look at the signs.

Could you provide a link to an entry/entries which demonstrates these supposed "clear" messages?
