My dvd drive (LG GH20S10) disappears every now and then ... what could be possible cause for this.

It does not even appear in my bios. Sometimes I have to resort to a BIOS clear so that it is seen again.

ANy thoughts?

Is it a PATA or SATA drive? Either way, try changing the cable, if possible use another port to see if it does the same.

I'd start troubleshooting at the powercable of the drive. Can you perhaps use another un-used one?

Sounds like something is expanding as the inside of the PC heats up.

I also suspected that it might be attributed to the power or SATA cable but the funny thing is that when I installed Nero 7 it because a regular occurence (it disappearing from my system).

I uninstalled Nero but it still happens although not so frequently.

BY disappear I mean, I do not see the drive in my bios or device manager but everything is connected.

I've got a similar problem with my IDE drives...they just go AWOL sometimes (sata doesn't) I reckon its got something to do with the mobo (asus p5k). Shuffling the power connector seems to have helped a little. (also got nero 7 installed:eek:)

Haven't figured out whats wrong yet, so if you do find a solution, please drop me a pm.
