why does my DYNDNS IP change GGRRRR

Hey guys

Do you know why this happens ? i use it for a Video conference machine if it keeps changing i have to keep updating my phonebook ??

Help
 
Because its exactly that - A DYNAMIC IP. It's going to change when your router is rebooted, when your ISP assigns you a new address.

I'm not quite sure you realize the difference between DYNAMIC and STATIC ip addresses...

Also who cares if it changes - simply use your dyndnsname.dyndns.org and if this account is setup on your router then it will automatically forward the new ip to this dyndns, therefore the dyndns account will always be up to date.

Please elaborate more.

ohhhhh ok i see now think is i cant dial my other video conference unit using the name.dyndns.org i need the actual IP address to dial mmmmm thats not going to work well
 
Your IP address is DYNAMIC. The DNS name ie. mypc.dnsalias.net will never change, unless it expires.

Don't use the IP address in your phonebook - use the dns name

There are some products that gives you static IP's (IS, DataPro, MWEB, etc), but you do pay a huge premium for those accounts, as they are aimed at businesses.

Why can you not use name.dyndns.org - if this account is setup in your router then it will permanently reflect your CURRENT dynamic IP address. Have you setup this account in your router?

yeah man thats the problem hey, we cant hook VC to work network so trying to find a way around it thats cheap DYNDNS works but changing of the IP is going to cause headaches suppose should someone need a VC they should check with IT before, then they just log in to DYNDNS and give the updated ip to the user to use ?

yeah have set it up on the netgear dg834 in the actual console its a SONY PCS G50 there is no way you can dial names etc only IP or telephone (ISDN)
 
i know dude are there companies that can sell me static ips ? like i would need around 3-5 ?

been googling but nothing bru

Telkom's equipment will only ever give you a dynamic IP out of a pre-allocated pool for each realm. They refuse to assign addresses statically. The premium products (VC, IS, etc) use MPLS to form a VPN tunnel to your router, then assign static IPs to the tunnel. This is also why they require the use of a pre-configured Cisco router. Any ISP can give you the needed IP addresses, but getting them assigned to your link is going to be problematic at best, impossible at worst. This kind of thing may start to become possible when IPStream gets implemented, as the ISP is terminating the PPPoE session itself, and no longer Telkom, and they can then assign whatever IP addresses it feels appropriate to your connection.

You make me sound like i need a networking course lol you good bud :) well to be modest im F.... hey ? unless i stick to dyndns and have all that extra work of checking ips when they want to dial out of the video conference ? ahhh man why are things so complicated ?? **** can never be easy !
 
Using a dyndns account is really not that hard, your ip will permanently be updated and you will then use this dns to connect as opposed to the ever changing IP.

This isn't rocket science.

mmmmm CDA how would you suggest i use VPN to fix this problem i dont see how you would be able to ?

I agree, he has no grasp of even the basics, probably shouldn't be in the IT department at all.

GOOGLE - DYNAMIC IP , GOOGLE - STATIC IP, GOOGLE - HOW DYNDNS WORKS, GOOGLE - VPN

It's really not that hard...

lol fail thread. Just use the dydns hostname instead of the ip and it should update your dynamic IP's automatically.

If you setup DynDNS on your computer to sync your IP you should be fine. Otherwise, you can always do a ping and get your new IP, if you absolutely need to (since the hostname doesnt work). ;)
