Whenever I log on I have to reset my Firewall in Windows Security Centre and sometimes whilst I am surfing the net it goes off again and I have to re-enable it again, I am running Windows Xp.

What is happening with it and why is it doing that all of a sudden?

Thanks.

I also don't know anything about this but it's the firewall in the Windows Security Centre on the PC. you get firewall, automatic updates and virus protection but whenever I switch on i have to enable the firewall all the time and it only started happening recently because up until now it has always been enabled.

Q. Why does my Firewall keep on going down?
A. 'Cos the Cold War is over?

I'm keeping an eye on this as it is an intermittent issue on my wife's PC as well.

Not every time, which is the strange part!

EDIT: I'm going to do a full Windows Update today and then see if it still happens.

ok let us know what happens. i have Advanced SystemCare Pro on my Pc and wondered if it has something to do with that but I have also had it for years and the firewall never went down before.

Certain viruses and trojans can disable the windows firewall from outside.

Rather, get Sygate firewall and use that.

Or, if you're really, really paranoid like me, get Smoothwall/IPCop/pfsense etc and use that to protect your LAN...

I battle to understand how pc's get infected. It has not happened to me in many many years.

1. Avira Antiver Free Edition
2. Comodo Firewall also free edition

Every once in a while I will install different products and scan with those (just to test) but to date have not found anything.

i scanned my pc as i said and my adsl went down. i tried laying around with the settings and as i know nothing about this stuff i got further in the poo then ever. we went to the shops and to my daughter and when i came back i phoned telkom and we found out it was the ethernet hub that was causing the error. i unplugged the Lan cable from it and plugged it straight into the pc and it worked. i then used another port in the ethernet hub and everything worked.

i am too scared to switch my pc off now to see what is gonna happen with the firewall but touch wood everything is working fine.

Your system might be infected with a virus.
Have you already tried a system scan using your anti-virus and Malware-bytes?

Did you find anything?
