Im generalizing here to the need for speed series but how come the series very rarely feature cars from said stable?

Do Ferrari not like giving out the rights?

Probably because they have to pay for the rights to put the cars in the game, and it's probably too expensive. Pretty much the same reason cars in GTA look similar to real cars, but have different names.

Pretty sure Rockstar Games could afford the licenses (Midnight Club?). I think the brands don't want to be associated with homicidal maniacs.

Just think its strange considering there are normally Lamborghini's and Zonda's in their various flavours... Think Ferrari is just too high and mighty

They're probably very picky. Saying that it would be awesome to see a NFS: Ferrari Unlimited like the old Porsche version

From a interview with some game developing company I saw before they said Ferrari want to much money.

Yeah, that would actually make a bit more sense. Haven't really thought of it that way.

Need for Speed has Ferraris, what other racing games are the rage today? Is there anything to rival Toca on the PC and GT4/5 on the PS in terms of real racing? The NFS series lost it's touch with the 'The Fast and the Furious' storyline being woven in AGAIN AND AGAIN....

I did like the one where you have free roaming (most wanted?) - that's a nice touch IMO. Hot Pursuit 2 wasn't bad.

I know Colin McRae was good too in it's day. I'm not impressed with F1 sims - they're just too hard (perhaps realistic?) though I still think they're uber hard and super boring.

I can add this... Related and a little unrelated. I did some work with A1GP a while ago... In their last year they did a deal with Ferrari for chassis' and engines... The cars all had "Powered by Ferrari" decals 'cos to have the actual prancing horse decal was going to cost something like $100K per car.
I can hardly imagine what Ferrari would charge game companies to render their cars in commercial games.

I must admit the old NFS games had the odd Ferrari here and there, referring to the old hot pursuit and high stakes, and even the newer hot pursuit (not the second one that came out recently, the one before that), just strange that a huge company like EA wont buy the rights

i used to play test drive on my amiga ages ago, it had a ferrari testarossa in it :) now i play mostly browser games like kapi hospital or my free farm, no more fast cars... maybe i should do it again for fun!

Hey I also played Test Drive on Amiga & even on C64 before that...

There is a racing sim that everyone seems to forget about and that is GTR2. There is quite a number of Ferrari's in there. The game is very realistic though with all the custom mods out there.

Crazy, just re-installed GTA4 last night. Forgot how fun it is rampaging through the city when you get the handling of the cars down.
Also, Blista Compact FTW! It has served me faithfully for many a GTA title.
