DStv may have its detractors - and there are many - however, it is worth every cent for one simple reason.

I only subscribe for the F1 coverage - I so wish that multichoice would allow you "choice" and select the channels you actually watch. I honestly don't care about the football etc. I would happily pay 50% the price for 10% of the channels if I could choose them myself - unfortunately DSTV's revenue would take a dive if they allowed their customers actual choice - ironic really.

I can watch all and any sport 24/7.
Supersport offers a wide variety, with live sport, good magazine shows, and some cool sports doccies.
Definitely worth R700 a month to watch what you want when you want in the comfort of your own home

ps: Don't use the "but I can go to a bar and watch it for free" argument. Your bill after food and drinks for the month will be way over R700 and you not allowed to sit there in your underwear

DSTV isn't preventing Netflix from coming to SA. The proof is that Netflix have announced that they're coming to SA.

I'm glad Multichoice has a monopoly here. It would cost much more per month to subscribe to two TV packages to get all the sport. It's great having it all in one place.

The vast majority of Multichoice's expenditure is sports licenses. Even then, every event they show needs a primary sponsor or two to make the numbers work. If all subscribers weren't forced to pay for the entire package the revenue wouldn't be enough to cover the sport. So it's a necessary evil and one I'm perfectly okay with.

Sky Sports F1 is much, much, much better than DSTV's coverage. If your connection supports it, you can stream it via XBMC on your TV if you have an Android set-top box and streaming subscription. NTV and StreamTVBox both have Sky Sports F1. It's a 24 hour channel that shows much more than just the races.

I'm on my phone so can't easily post links. Just use Google to find XBMC. It's probably easy to install. And you can find the abovementioned streaming services mentioned above by searching for them. I prefer NTV.tv personally, but it is more expensive for HD channels. It's more reliable and more professional though. There have been occasions when Sky Sports F1 HD disappeared from the channel listing for months at a time, so make sure that whatever you subscribe to offers that channel.

It is perfectly understandable if you don't find value in DStv. And no-one minds you saying so, even strongly, as others have done. But you choose to sink into an ad hominem denigration that frankly is juvenile and offensive, as if your personal tastes somehow trump manners. Did your dog bite you?

I think DStv is expensive, but not so expensive as to cancel it...at least not in this year of two World Cup tournaments. I'm not a TV movie watcher - 98% of it is in my view utter crap. How do I know? My wife watches it, and I get to glance up from book, journal, or browser. On weekends I go for sport because it's clean, on the whole.

I'm quite happy to pay the subscription.

I tried to install it a few years ago ( XBMC ) but after a few wasted hours packed it up .... Hope I have better luck this time.

I'm not paying R400 per channel for Sport !!!

I would only watch SS1 and SS2 on DSTV, but not for that price, so I cancelled.

I didn't even watch SS1 and SS2 that much, pay per view would be better for me.

Rather spent the money on good internet (VDSL 20 Mbps, soon will be 100Mbps fibre).

As far as I am concerned DSTV offers no value, and is a total rip-off.
