Why Eskom needs to increase electricity prices

And earning inflated salaries. SOEs employees are the highest paid in SA. As pigs go, undoubtedly the fattest of the fat.
Exactly! Eskom needs to reduce its grossly overpaid bloated staff levels by 17,000 people which will save the company R1.5 Billion per year.

Oh, I see ..... so nothing to do with bonuses, inefficiency, corruption or illegal connections then

Eskom wants to pay workers R1.8 billion in performance bonuses: report

Eskom needs to reduce its grossly overpaid, bloated staff by 17,000 excess staff. This would reduce the cost burden by R1.6 Biilion per year. And reduce all salary packages including loans for housing paid to employees (Being paid to both partners who work at Eskom and living in the same house) on top of their excessive monthly salary, car allowances, cell phones and medical aid. 30 days sick leave taken if I’ll not not plus 30 days annual leave!! The AVERAGE salary packages exceeds R600,000.00 per employee! Do the maths!

17 000 employees with an average salary of R600 000 per annum equates to a saving of R10.2 billion per annum.
R1.6 billion / 17 000 = R94 117 per annum per employee or R7843 per month.
That's way off the average salary of R600 000 per annum. Does Eskom employ 17 000 cleaners?

Apologies: Actually I miscalculated: I think the figure should be as you say R10.2 billion. The bottom line is that Eskom and most SOE,s are overstaffed! Bear in mind that ESKOM has over 200 managers earning in excess of R3 Million per year and some senior executives earning even more.

First downscale your workforce to appropriate size. THEN we can rebalance the books and start talking. Not before.

I'd like to see MyBB report on how much fat the municipalities are adding on top, they're a big part of the problem but don't seem to add any value
Well, its pretty simple really. Eskom's avergage tariff is around R1.00 per unit. So take whatever you pay and add to that.

I'm paying R2.52 on the high bracket, so the muni is scoring R1.52 profit per unit, 152% markup.

And it's even worse, because offpeak night rates are like 40c a unit.
