Why is Afrihost the hero and Mweb the devil?

Firstly, well done to Afrihost for these great prices. I am however concerned that Afrihost only bought out these new offers in response to Mwebs offer, i.e. they weren't going to but now with the big boys running the war... you get my point. Fair enough the R29 saga began it all, but still both providers need to be complemented. I am concerned though that Afrihost haven't released a slow speeds option, thats going to put a number of potential subscribers off (mostly though because of the Telkom rental at those speeds). I will post again when my flu meds have worn off and can think.

I would just go for which ever ISP offers the best service and value for money be it Mweb, afrihost even Telkom - people are being so immature about this - they offer us a service and we are the consumer - Fan boys wouldn't get a tap on the back for licking up an ISP!

That costs time and money. Not all ISP's can do it.

Then again it's the mentality of the users too. Only 5 % of the userbase screw it up for everyone else. Because it's uncapped, in Europe MOST of us don't abuse it.

They have roads called the autobahn, which has no speed limits, yet there are so few accidents there. It's the mentality of the road users that matters.
Imagine you have no speed limits in this country? I KNOW that in Africa it will be a hellstorm. Not saying that Africa is uncivilised, but look at the rest of the world compared to here.

Firstly - Uncapped is uncapped. You cannot put a limit on something and them call it unlimited. Thats called a lie. Otherwise I could go around calling myself a doctor when in fact I only have my masters, because I have done some studying... ? What? No? How about "Almost Doctor"? Or "Almost uncapped"? Doesn't carry the weight, or the sales figures...

Secondly. The Autobahn is safe because of the stringent German driver's license requirements. Besides having more comprehensive learners and tests, you have to log a certain amount of hours behind the wheel with a certified driving instructor before you can get your license.

That being said I still think its a damn good deal tho.

Afrihost stated ages ago that they were looking at uncapped - yes they might have been forced to start sooner than planned, and hence a limited offer at this stage.

Remember Afrihost as an ISP is 6 odd months old and Mweb has been around for ages, so sorry but overall Afrihost deserves the Kudos. They started the revolution, and continue to fight the price war.

Just a thought but if Afrihost didnt come with R29/GB adsl a few months back, would Mweb have come with uncapped now? Afrihost were the first to bring us affordable bandwidth

IMO this is pure speculation started by MyBB members. There is nothing concrete to actually back this statement up.
At the end of the day AfriHost saw a opening for a business opportunity (R29/GB) and they took it - they are still a business after all.
All this so-called 'wars' started when the new sea cables started landing, which is when virtually all of the ISPs (with good business-sense) started making plans for the future and how to be ontop.
I reckon this is why WA / MWEB built their own networks (which does not happen overnight btw).
The only difference is MWEB did something revolutionary and WA did not (and still is not).

I agree with you. Would you be happy if they told you the limit? or had to find it out for yourself? If they don't specify the limit then you would wanna see how far it goes and if they spefiy it some complain that its not enough.
I am happy with the AH policy, pretty straight forward and it's the undedogs that pressure the big ones to pull their socks up

The last time they had a local uncapped trial, they came down fairly heavy on those that they considered "abusers" , but they never set any limits in the first place. They were very vague and often gave contradicting statements about the service.
2) They are perceived to be a Mom and Pop ISP... and as such they have been known to take advantage of people who don't know any better. They overcharged people on ADSL prices for years.
3) They belong to Naspers/Media24 - that evil company that also owns Multichoice.

And when it comes to Afrihost, they are the little underdog company that started the 2009/2010 price wars by slashing prices down to the R30 per Gig level.

So ja... it's because of a lot of past history.
