I'm so glad my contract expires 17th December.

These last few months it seems like I can not make any calls, especially after 20:00 when I can actually use my flippen free minutes.
Everytime I want to call, it just shows network busy.

Is Vodacom any better?
<useless info>
I'm thinking of getting their Talk 130.
</useless info>

And has any of you ever tried phoning CellC customer helpline?
Pathetic.

I would rather use MTN.

Cell C piggy bank on Vodacom and Virgin Mobile and with Telkom also coming out as another provider they might piggy bank on Voacom as well.

I would rather go for MTN, but try prepaid first :)

I second the option of trying prepaid first. If you have an old phone lying around, buy a 96c SIM, stick it in and make some calls, try data downloads, phone "Help" desk etc, just to check all is how you would like it to be...

Otherwise, its a port and another 24 month contract on a network you don't like.

They are all as bad as each other IMO, though the new MTN packages really take the cake as far as karkness is concerned...

The Vodacom yebo4less topup is looking good to me at the mo.

Good luck finding any kind of satisfaction;)

I use CellC right now and don't have any problems. In fact I've used Vodacom, MTN and CellC and never had any problems. I guess you are often in a low range area?

That being said, I never make a lot of calls...just SMS'

I've been with all the service providers and networks in the last 5 years and they all suck on some level. Virgin is the dead worst, Nashua and Altech are next (whichever network you're with), then Cell C, and Voda and MTN are jointly the best of the worst. I've received both good and bad customer service from MTN, Voda, and Cell (always bad service from the other 3). If it comes down to a question of network quality then MTN is definitely the best - far less downtime (in fact downtime is quite rare on MTN) than Vodacom plus they have GPRS+ and EDGE throughout most of the country which is great because 3G coverage on both networks is still quite patchy
.
@Budza: The deals depend on what you want, if you make lots of calls then the new MTN Anytime deals are a rip-off but if, like me, you want a new phone then they're excellent (completely unbeatable actually - no one else comes even close to the low prices MTN is charging right now) also great if you send MMS's and use occasional data, etc.

i will agree with that! Moved from Cell-C to MTN. 100% improvement om network availability and quality. But service on a "i have a problem" level sucks big time with all of them. Had problems with my port from Cell- to MTN - 9 months down the line and still not sorted out! Now the new online billing thing is also a big RF. Haven t received a statement in 4 months. No bothering to sort it out because Im just not willing to sit 2 hours on the phone trying to explain the situation for the 6th time to someone who cant understand you, just so that it can go into some Que and wait to be resolved without any resolve! I think they learned that one at Telkom!

O and the whole piggy back thing is so true! Vodacoms network IS overloaded. It is probably good for money to run the network at say 85% capacity but your quality of service start to suck as you hit you "busy" times.. like moths end and on Fridays, never mind if month end lands on `n Friday!

Sorry for going a bit off topic but can Mtn offer me better quality than Vodacoms talk 240? In regards to how much I can talk per month and in regards to the phone I get. I think talk 240 costs just over R400 per month. The most important though is how much I can call for how much I pay.

Thanks

MTN sucks for data. Their top brasses are amongst the richest in the country. Do go with them.

Look at MTN's deals - on Anytime 350 you can get 179 anytime minutes (or use the value for anything else) and you'll probably save more than 30% on the phone you want. Compare any deal Vodacom have with a similar one on MTN and you'll see that the MTN phones are much cheaper (but overall fewer minutes than old Procall and Mycall contracts and Vodacom's).

Why does MTN suck for data, unless Vodacom offer 3G where you live and MTN don't (MTN just launched 3G where I live and Voda don't have it here)? Overall MTN's still better because they offer Edge and GPRS+ everywhere, if you don't get 3G on Vodacom you mostly go down to std 9kb GPRS.

Why does MTN suck for data

Cause you cannot use the same bundle twice in a month, I mean come on, how lame is that ? Did a three year old write their billing systems?
Also, their online dashboard is so inaccurate, and they admit it, that one gets the feeling they really did get a three year old to write it.

Plus they make too much money. And they are the eMpTy oNe.
