Why is esports coverage so bad in SA?

Okay so im specifically relating this to CS:GO.

Orena had the ESWC qualifiers recently. Bravado won and gained entrance into the finals in Canada, this is quite a big achievement as they get to compete against the top teams in the world in a huge competition.

Now why is there hardly any coverage of this? I found one article on lazygamer, thats it.

Mygaming, MyBB (undertstandable, not a gaming website but still), mweb, telkomgaming - all nothing about this.

Surely gaming websites should actually report on this so the scene can grow and people are made aware of the achievements these guys have earned?

Mygaming = Opinion pieces by wannabe writers, biased reporting with big attitude problems.
Mweb/Telkomgaming = Gets content from international sites then write their own version of it.
Lazygamer = Only proper gaming site in S.A, hosts local tournaments and supports local clans and gives exposure to local tournaments. Only South African gaming site ever where AAA titles quoted a review from them.

You're asking about esports, but I haven't heard of this CS:GO thing you're talking about. Is it for girls or something?

I've also missed the Whole Counter Strike boat still Sumi on MyBB introduced me to it...
YOU HAVE NO IDEA !!! Probably the most competitive game out there atm apart from DOTA2. And it's exciting as hell to watch. It's a FPS damn it, much better than watching little animations running around throwing blue sparks and shyte.

CS:GO has it's own streaming service where you can watch games live CS:GO TV.

Yes, I'm addicted to it :o

hardly equates to any form of coverage in SA.
 
1. SA has a very, very small E-Sports community.
2. CS-GO isn't that big of a game in SA. Dota 2 is arguably the biggest, so it's covered most. Still mediocre though, I think even Gosugamers gives SA more coverage than the local outlets.

Btw don't bother with local gaming news sites, as GoofySmurf said they are all trash, Lazygamer being the only exception.

Competitive CS is incredibly boring to watch - most of the round the teams just sit around doing nothing - then there is like 30 seconds of action *yawn*

A round is only 2:30 minutes long. 30 seconds is 1/4 of the round. And that happens up to 30 times. But I suppose you need to be a CS:GO player to appreciate it. Just like DOTA2. I don't play it and don't find the matches entertaining :o

simple. T&A. sport on tv needs to have people playing with balls. the only time I watch gameplay is if im stuck in a game and need a solution.
 
Well im not necessarily saying that streaming but be broadcast, but at least articles on the latest comps, top teams, news etc. This will grow esports as a whole.

Our scene isn't exactly tiny, when you have Battlefield, Cod, dota2, cs:go, sc2 played by all the major teams, we have a sizable amount of competitive gamers. Problem is, if you are not exposed to it, you will never know about it.

e.g I played 1.6 competitively about 10 years ago. After i quit, 3 years down the line i thought hey lemme go play again and see whats happening. It was such a mission to find out basic information like;
1. Who is the best team?
2. Are there any tournaments?
3. Where do i play?

I actually agree on this.

Why has no one started a Gaming TV Channel/Stream on local E-Sports events and the likes. Sponsors will be a plenty and viewers, there will be no shortage of it. Currently SA is growing x100 when it comes to streaming online content.

Supporting local clans is just as questionable.

The only people who actually cover this stuff and genuinely supports the local industry is Zombiegamer...and through that affiliation Mweb Game Zone somewhat.

Lazygamer in fact tried to bring their Clan Profiles concept up as a new idea only to be smashed in the face when Zombiegamer had been doing it for almost two years beforehand already.

Lazygamer also seems to cover nothing but rehashed international news for eSports.

There we go! That is perfect, exactly what i am looking for, tell them to spend money on their SEO so when i type esports south africa they come up first :)

Many gaming houses popping up since 2010. Many local CS:GO pros opting to LAN (local tournaments). Funding issues…

Yeah they are small time, but very passionate.

I'm sure if there was money to be had they would have spent some on upgrading the web presence.

People should just start asking as sponsorships is a 2 way street. Both win from it.
 
It seems sponsors are a bit more involved nowadays. Most top teams are sponsored and even some of the no so good teams somehow got sponsors..

I do understand sponsors reluctance to sponsor a team though. Give people 5x R30,000 computers in return for what.. a small label on a t-shirt,a in-game sponsor tag that only 300 people will see where maybe 1 of those 300 will buy from that sponsor.
