Why is Google So Stingy with their Apps

How come Google is so bloody stupid with apps which are apparrently so great. From what I have been reading, the Google Camera app that comes with the Pixel devices is amazing and takes great photos at night etc, but is not available for other devices.
There are ports, of which I have installed...but it is buggy etc. Same with the Google Phone app. Also only for Pixel phones, though they have now started a Beta program where you can download it on your other devices which I am taking part in.

Why dont Google not make these apps available to all of us. We all use Android which is a Google system. C'mon google, stop discriminating. :mad: ALL Google Apps should be made available to ALL android phones.
 
Here is a test I did. Samsung Cam on the left. Google Cam on the right. I spot three differences. Which do you guys think is better? Samsung Cam or Google Cam. Changes are very slight, but on the Samsung one Colour seems to be a bit more pronounced. What do you guys think?

That's often the debate about apple vs android isn't it? That apple focuses it's software on a small number of devices whereas android needs to accommodate a wide range of devices and maybe sometimes suffers as a result. The Pixel camera app might just be google deciding to do an apple and restrict focus of that software to specific hardware in order to make it work amazing, rather than trying to generalize across every android device.
 
The Pixel camera app is made for the Pixel camera hardware. The app won't work on all devices, and Google is under no obligation to make the app for every device.

You can find a customised version of the Pixel app on XDA for your device if you want.

But that is the thing. Apparently, the Google Camera app relies a lot on AI and Software processing in the app to take mid range hardware and churn out great pics from software processing. At least that is what I read in reviews of the Pixel 4A and its camera.

Surely Google wants you to buy their own phones rather than let you get the same features from phones bought from other manufacturers?

I think Google is currently having difficulties selling their own phones. I'm sure they would like to become a major hardware manufacturer like Apple.

And I rather like their hardware, well from what I have seen on the internet....but then they have to make a effort to sell it in other countries, not just north america and I think EU.

No, they have deliberately avoided getting embedded in the hardware manufacturing space. Their goal will always be targeted towards data collection.

A lot of their hardware is essentially proof of concept kind of stuff to push the other manufacturers to up their game
 
I agree with you. Google manufactures some really great hardware but they don't market it well in South Africa. If it was cheaper and more widely available over here I think it would sell much better.

Well they appear to be manufacturing more and more of their own hardware such as the AI speakers and Nest devices. It sounds as though Nest has become part of the Google hardware division.

The Pixel 4a has the same camera as the main one on the Pixel 4. So it's a great camera whereas other manufacturers pump up the number of cameras with all of them being worse. Also that Google Phone app won't have call recording which mine has.
 
My Redmi-Go has all these apps from Google. Phone, camera, contacts etc.
I don't think it's limited to Google hardware.
 
Google done even make all the Pixel apps/services available to Pixel owners out of USA. A lot to do with licensing and regulation. Giving it away "for free" would probably mean more legal and technical headaches. And as said above, they are selling points for the Pixel phones.

Why doesn't Apple give away iMessage to everyone?

Bacause iOS runs only on Apple. Android runs on multiple. And iMessage forms integral part of Apple ecosystem. They want you tied in. Android is a ecosystem, why not make ALL Google apps compatible with ALL OEM handsets as a ecosystem for them?

And Google wants tie-in to the Pixel. How is this any different?
