Why is Google So Stingy with their Apps

I agree that the samsung one looks better. Why are you bitching about access to google apps then?

You miss the point. They are collecting data. The nest helps them with that , as do the ai speakers.

is your phone a snapdragon handset?
 
Its fairly straightforward I think.

Pixels are their phone so they have full access. I am sure many manufacturers would jump at having google apply the pixels software processing for their phones, but as has been mentioned here, their are far too many OEMs let alone phone models. And google cant help a few as other manufacturers cry, thats why Google sold Motorola. Samsung, Huawei etc complained, Samsung even threatened to focus on their Tizen OS and drop Android.

For the phone app, as someone might have mentioned you won't get the live transcribing feature that is the main draw for that app imo. This might be for many reasons, google not having enough processing power for live transcribing for everyone yet or not having been able to work on all the different accents and languages in the world etc

Samsung in south Africa is exynos, not snapdragon, Google Camera requires certain features stuff that Qualcomm has on their chip, and even with e.g. S10 snapdragon vs exynos stock camera app the snapdragon performs better.

In regards to giving everyone access to all apps, how many are going to understand that they can't install the Google Camera because their SoC is wrong? And Google Camera is supposed to help sell Pixel devices.

Besides Google phone and messages, which all have other carrier equivalent, there isn't really anything they hold back.

(live transcribe is on the device itself, pretty sure like the Google Camera it's been optimized to use Qualcomm accelerators).

OH ok. I did not know that. Thought the big thing was software in the camera app and also Google AI processing. I mean my camera has got 4 lenses on the back compared to Google Pixel 4A with one, so imagine what it could do, but I am not going to fret about it too much. Just wish Google would make all their apps available on all devices running legit Android from their approved vendors .... BUT also start making your Pixel devices more available for goodness sakes. If anything, it will make the other OEM's also up their game even more.

you will get much better performance Google Pixel camera app ports from a snapdragon device since this is what Pixels use and compatibility is much better. Night sight is really only a possibility for snapdragon phones.

I see. I have a old Lenovo Zuk Z2 which comes with a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 (14 nm) and a SOC and a 13 MP, f/2.2, 1/2.6", 1.34µm, PDAF back cam. This is pretty old though now. Maybe I will test it just for the hell of it :)

find an app that has been ported specifically for it if you can
 
Convince Voda and MTN to bring the pixels and Nokia in on contract. I think a big problem is , most people want the best phone, eg samsung S20, and when the S corona, comes out with a corona detector app, everyone wants that one, and the S20 is history.

There are ports, of which I have installed...but it is buggy etc. Same with the Google Phone app. Also only for Pixel phones, though they have now started a Beta program where you can download it on your other devices which I am taking part in.

Why dont Google not make these apps available to all of us. We all use Android which is a Google system. C'mon google, stop discriminating. :mad: ALL Google Apps should be made available to ALL android phones.

I was speaking to one of the specialist today about Google pixel phones,It makes me hard ti belive on this thread

What i think is buyer be aware
 
So I loaded Lineage OS 17.1 (Android 10) on my old Lenovo Z2 Plus (Samsung A51 work phone was stolen :mad:)

I find the stock Lineage camera app rather meh, so figured I will try the Google Camera app a try again, and true as bob it works. Version 7.4 and it has got the night sight feature in it. Will play with it tonight and post results, one with Google Night Sight and other with stock Lineage app.

Besides them bring stingy it's a pretty well known fact many of their own Apps actually run better on iOS than top level Android phones. Additionally the iOS versions often get new features first.
