Why do you pay so much for a 200MB package for R149 a month.

By the way what speed does one connect at with iBurst.

The max speed is 1Mps depending on your location.

I generally get between 500-900 kbps.

When looking at iburst prices you should compare them to the cell operators packages. Remember that you won't have to pay line rental.

iBursts prices are dropping in April as well.

Iburst are a bunch of greedy buffoons, just like Vodacom !
They see that the general trend is for data to get cheaper, and they have users drop them for ADSL, but they don't care..

They will milk their ever-decreasing subscribers dry rather than compete with the real world and increase their subscriber base.

Seems to me they went to the Sentech school of business growth.

Iburst are so expensive because they know if you are using them, its because you have no other choice.

iBurst are infact cheap. All the ADSL users i know pay around R700 a month including all the hidden costs of line rentals and stuff. On ADSL you are HARDCAPPED regardless of how fast you download.
Try work out how much 10-20Gigs of bandwidth is on any ADSL package please?
Now go and find me an ISP that offers what iBurst do for cheaper than iBurst.
(I am, of course, talking only about their soft capped options, going for anything less is just silly)

Exactly why I canned iBurst ... getting 3Gb at 3.6Mb/s from Vodacom for R589 p/m

I actually agree (on most points) with riverdusty here. Why get faster downloads (I get a good ~900kbps) when I can still only download 3GB!! At least with iBurst I can go over (every few months I do a 7GB+ run) while still only paying for my measly 3500MB. Besides, most technical people I know are happy with their 384kbps lines - again, while the ridiculous cap is in place, speed makes very little difference.

Where do I disagree? Bandwidth is not cheap in this country. Period.

Landy, how is that saving? R599 p/m gets me 3500MB plus soft cap. I don't recall your problems with iBurst though, so I'll shut up about now. :D

I usually get around 40+gigs a month on my R529 p/m package using iburst.

I'va had iBurst for almost 2 weeks now and have already done 25Gb(mainly international) on my 1500Mb package. AFAIK there isn't a cheaper way to do it, except maybe cscape, if you have reception.

I never used the 3.5Gb from iBurst ... in fact, they owe me about 5.5Gb as my modem stopped working during my last month with them

I used to pay R599, now I am paying R589, so I save R10 ... Yes, I only have 3Gb now, but I never use it in any case, plus I am fully mobile, plus I am getting average 2.5Mb speeds ... so all in all, not just about the money, I am saving

Ok but why not capitalise on that and offer a discount as then you would be cheaper than ADSL?

That is only for Pro packages and ur paying from R469 upwards, won't be suited to my mother-in-law.

Been there and done that in the beginning with ADSL, but after my 2nd month till now been downloading 100s of GB every month at no extra cost at +_4Mbps, all of it international.:D

If iBurst didn't offer their soft-cap service I don't think any of us would still be with them...

Well, then your question is like asking why a two kilogram pack of potatoes is so expensive at a supermarket, when comparing them to a seven kilogram pack. The answer is that if you only need two kilograms of a product with a limited life, the suppliers know they can charge you relatively more per kilogram as long as the pack is cheaper than the larger pack...
