Why is Lion beer so cheap?

Lion 500 ml cans selling for R200.00 per case at my local. Asked the manager why so cheap (compared to others). His response -
1.) Trying to improve market share
2.) Takeup has not been as good as expected so they have surplus stock that needs to be turned over before it becomes old.
3.) If takeup does not improve, expect even lower prices going forward before they stop producing it.

I'm sure consumption will spread drastically, if they advertise how cheap it is.

Speaking of beer.

If you're close to a Shoprite Liquor, pop in and grab a 12 pack (440ml) at R99. The 6 pack is also on special at R49 - normal price is R70
