why is my cap usage so high

i just hope its before next month so we'll get a chance to change. 10 days to go :|

Blizzard ( biggest game company in the world) needs you to require a stable internet connection to play Starcraft2 and diablo 3 ( the two most anticipated games
) even to play single player and guess what to play multiplayer.. minimum specs = 1mbps connection ( im guessing 3 gig cap is gone in one day then )

so all s.a gamers can say goodbye to SC2 and Diablo3 :D stick to dota for the rest of our lives,.. ..-_- and warcraft 3

Thats only if you going to play online Via battlenet, you will still be able to play the game in singel player mode without an internet connection, And tbh the game is still well worth it in single player mode ;)

I started off on a 3gig cap aboyt 3 years ago which me and my girlfirend played wow on and in most cases we were left with around 500mb at the end of the month, now granted we did not raid as much as we do now and we did not use vent. Then last year we started noticing that we were going over 3gigs which we gathered must me because we are rading more and using vent so we decided to move over to the 5gig cap which was great we were left with around 500 - 1gig at the end of the month rading around 4 times a week. Then all of a sudden towards the end of last year we started going well over 5gigs we would be using around 7gigs a month so we moved over to the 10 gig cap and now we are using just under 10gigs a month and we are only rading 3 times a week and we barley download anything off the internet so how our usage keeps going up i have no idea i dont belive Wow can use up to 8gigs a month playing 3 times a week for around 4 hrs

Was coming here just to say that first half myself so +1.

Additionally though you'll be able to play SC on Bnet with little difficulty as RTS games are much more latency friendly and require much less bandwidth than other online titles.

Though....the "stable" bit may still be a bit of a problem.......

Also MANY users have noticed iBursts data measuring to be far off in the past (something like 10% higher than actual data in some of my past scenarios) but it's really not worth contending with because it's simply too much hassle. There is a new system in place however and since it looks to have some integration with the data measuring/cap enforcing I have a small smidgen of hope that these problems won't persist in future months.

hang on.. u say RTS is more bandwidth friendly... maybe not RA3 then... i played twice online 30 meg per match without voice

WOW= 6 meg per hour without vent..
PvP 14 meg per hour without vent
and 10 man raiding 35 mewg per hour without vent
25 man .. well lets not go there
i only do 10 man content anyway but it comes to about 45 meg per hour using blizzards voice

rts is very bandwidth hungry.. anyway going off topic.. i just wanna know howcome do games bandwidth requirements go up bbut our ISP's dont budge

Well 30 meg per hour is actually pretty fantastic actually.

You can easily manage that sort of requirement with a 64kbs connection.

I see your point that it uses up bandwidth but 30 meg is pretty damn low if you're running a 64kb or more connection. You're not even utilizing 10% of your 1meg capabilities to handle that so at that point the only thing that comes into play is latency, and in general rts games are much more (reasonable - not talking 8000ms or anything here) lag friendly.

i never said Ra3 uses 30 meg per hour.. its per match

match = 15-20 mins

Ah misread then on my part.

So then roughly 90megs and hour isn't quite so grand.....still fairly odd though as I've never known an RTS to chew up so much bandwidth before. Perhaps you had updates running automatically in the background at the time? Trojan's and other nasties are also a possibility (in general cap loss scenarios too) and then there's always the chance of the game just being coded oddly in the first place.

Try a few different RTSes though and see the difference. Added to all this SC2 is from Blizzard who (as per your listing) have a great bandwidth utilization track record so don't expect the same half assed coding that you'll get from whoever EA gets to code their stuff.

question then is this not like gear of wars were you need an internet connection to sigh on but after that unless you playing with somebody else it does not use bandwidth its more away to combat piracy? surley on the single player campaigns it can't use a lot of bandwidth

If you're talking about SC2 then it shouldn't use much at all. From the articles and interviews I've read so far it *looks like* Bnet's integration into singleplayer will only be for achievement tracking on your account.

blah well either way... the games are becoming bandwidth hungry and well south africa doesnt give us the bandwidth to support it

and they wonder why piracy is so high in this country
