Hi guys,
I have been with mweb for a month now my download speed had been 41kbps on http but my browsing was horrible I couldn't even open up a speedtest. It takes 10 min to open a basic web page. My ping is also horrible.
Lately its been even worse my download speed stays at about 20kb max night and day . Here is my speedtest I did with mybroadband

Post your line stats please, maybe your line is having some problems.

Also do a trace route to like www.google.co.za and post it here.

By providing us with both your ADSL line's statistics and a trace route we could take a very good guess of where your problem lies.

I suspect it is the port at the exchange that has gone bad, first ask telkom to reset the port and if that does not work, ask them to move you to a new port. Thats my guess, but I wont know till I see the stats

How do you do a traceroute?

Please just take note that you cannot download faster than 42KB/s on a 384kbps ADSL line! So getting 41KB/s is very good, unless you got 41kbps which is roughly 4KB/s.

For a trace route:
Open up Command Prompt and type in it:
tracert www.google.co.za

And press <Enter> when you're done. Then the trace route will commence and once it's done, you can right-click inside the Window, select Mark and then you can click & drag across all the text.
Once you selected all the text, right-click again (to copy it) and then paste it in your forum post.

Jeesh! That trace route is TERRIBLE!

Are you downloading anything? Does your Mweb ADSL usage page show lots of data being used?

If you aren't downloading anything, then your most definitely on a congested Telkom exchange, in which case there isn't much that you can do. Here's a thread dedicated to congested exchanges: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/364262-List-of-congested-exchanges
Your only option is to report a fault at Telkom and ask your neighbours to do the same if they're experiencing the same symptoms.

Looks like a congested exchange

My line was also unusable last night (MWeb 1M). Was too tired to do more that reset the router when I got home, but if it persists today I'll try different ISP to see whether it's MWeb or Telkom.

Looks like a congested exchange

Funny you should mention that because for the first time in over a year i had issues with my line yesterday (mainly noticed it cuz i really needed it to work then). The speeds was being capped between 90-110kb/s on my 4Mb line. Phones Mweb support, one of the technical guys had me do 2 speedtests, both registering the same max of 0.9Mb and he said i should phone Telkom. Telkom denied anything was wrong but reset my port. Still the same thing for about 2 hours after. Suddenly later on through the night the speeds started jumping upward to 250-300kb/s then to max 440kb/s+ just after 1AM. (Yea, i was ticked off so i stayed up to watch it) -> I think our exchange is congested, which will be sad news. Either that or ?:wtf:?
