Why is this one more expensive

8600gt

Than this one?

8600gt

And is this card any good?

Is the more expensive one worth the couple of extra R'ds.

Double the available VRAM. I'd say it's worth it, especially if you play at higher resolutions. But then again, the 8600GT isn't the most powerful card out there...

Well, for one I'd say rather buy it at PC International. It's R900 (VAT included) for an 8600GT 512MB there...

If I were you I'd save some cash until I could buy the 9600GT :)

at higher reolutions this card won handle a new game

also i saw a test where they test 256 and 512 and an 8800gt and the only time u noticed a difference was when going higher than 1680 x 1050

1680 x 1050 and low there was like a 2 % difference

That's why I advised the 9600GT ;)

I'd pay less for that 2% difference, that's why I recommended the PCInt card :p

just check what RAM it has, my 512mb 8600 GT has 512mb DDR2 RAM..I think the new ones ship with DDR3 RAM.

Sorry to confuse things, but the 3650 is also an option...

you mean the HD3850? that HD3650 is more like a 8600GT than a 9600GT

As for the HD3850 vs 9600GT if you get the 512 Mb ver there is probably something like a 4-5 fps difference in games between the 2 :)

3D mark 06
HD3850 = 9627
9600GT = 9790

3D mark Vantage
HD3850 = 3778
9600GT XFX XXX Eddition = 3745

F.E.A.R 1024x768
96Gt = 123
HD38 = 111

Crysis 1024x768 [medium]
96GT = 48
HD38 = 46

S.T.A.L.K.E.R 1600x1200 - static lightning
both 100+ Fps

;) starting to get the point, not that much of a difference - http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=vga_2
