The thing is it seems so obvious what a company like MTN should do to excel. It's becoming more and more obvious that the future for companies like Vodacom and MTN, whether they like it or not, is data. Instead of fighting the tide they should embrace it, come up with innovative affordable data products and concentrate on being the best dumb data pipes they can be. They've already lost the battle for services that run on top of data. They will never be as innovative as Whatsapp, Skype, Google, etc. They're just pissing in the wind trying to compete with these sorts of products.

That's why it seems crazy that MTN would ditch Afrihost. Afrihost is what MTN could have been if they had been innovative. MTN needs to be more like Afrihost if it wants to survive.
