Yesterday my granny's phone got stolen. She doesn't have insurance. She's almost 90 years old and can hardly afford life.

I got her sim card blocked (contract phone) and the phone blacklisted immediately.

So this morning I went to the Vodashop in Parow Centre as it was the closest. According to the lady there I have to pay R99 for the new sim for the sim swop. That's understandable so no problem here.

My problem is, why do I have to buy a Prepaid Starter Pack as well to get a cheap phone? It's rediculous.

She's got 13 months left on her contract.

Now she have to pay R500 for a new phone, R99 for the new sim and R149 - R199 for a Starter Pack which she is not going to use because she'll be using her new R99 sim with her own number.

This is so pathetic.

Only cheap phones you need to buy the sim, more expensive ones you dont!

Yes you can. Who told you that you cant? Its R99 for Prepaid, and R69 for Contract... or was it the other way around?

Anyways, Buy the new phone with the Starter pack and use THAT SIM to do the SIM Swop

Hope you havn't bought anything yet - Go to MTNSP and they are selling SonyEricsson J100 phones for R199, this includes a starter pack ! Darn good phone as well, colour screen etc etc. when I bought one the MTN guys were amazed it had a SonyEricsson charger in the box as they cost R250 alone ! There is another handy hint, if you lose your charger just buy one of these and get the phone for free...
