Why SA rates can't be cut

I have an idea, let’s stop imports (At least those that we can manufacture locally). We can get those countries interested to come here and make it with our people.

Trade tariffs are set up to try and protect the local manufaturers from cheap imports. Unfortunately South Africa has not made progress in establishing much in the way of competitive industry.

Perhaps the only thing that a foreign company could make with our people is a range of pies or processed meats.

I agree the learning curve will be steep but at least we will have a learning curve.

Oh, so LCDs are a dying technology then? So what futuristic PC screen are you gonna get soon?

Bottom line, it just ain't gonna happen. We should rather point the energy to profit on our strengths.

TV most certainly isn't a dying technology.

Very little of what you'd call a 'show', if any, is made for the internet. And for the next few years you won't be getting any media on demand over the internet, and even when that does arrive, chances are it will be material that was already available on TV.

Of course there is always the opportunity to set up a 'soapie' that is only distributed via the internet and you could make a bunch of money. Just not this year. Even those people annoying you by digging up the roads are going to struggle in the short term with whatever promises you think are there.

If the USA stops buying then the Chinese will stop making. Basically the USA is the dominant consumer market and most of the world is reliant on that. Wishing that it were otherwise doesn't make it so.

Families grow, needs change, the commute to work or schools becomes a factor. And houses can also be an item that is traded on the same buy low, sell high principle in order to turn a profit.

1. Maybe you buy a house because you want to rent it out and it would pay for the bond costs and after its paid off you can earn a income on it which you use to live on during your retirement or leave to your children. Or maybe you use it as an investment in another manner.

2. Because you got a job somewhere else in the country or you have more kids now or you want to give more space for your kids to life in.

Ironic though how we suffer the same consequence on the building arena. Too many building contractors raping our property value in a saturated market. Too many banks financing inflated property value.

I can say without a doubt all the building material investors and building companies shareholders are only from SA and investing all their money in our country…

Commute is a fantastic opportunity for car sales. Contributing from home or local is the way to go.

That turning a profit musical chairs thing, is quite ironic: sell properties you don’t need to move up the price tag so someone can’t afford it, so you can buy a similar property that has been inflated by someone else until you lose your job or the economy fails. All in the name of churning profit and generating well deserved interest for banks while they buy our repossessed houses cash.

Government could try some of those limited time tax free zones if they want stuff to be manufactured here (like other countries have done). I sure as hell can't declare such a zone.

Anyway, we have tourism. Govment could keep the road network properly maintained and also maintain the tourist attractions themselves. Part of that would be to teach some of our previously disadvantaged citizens not to mess the places up to look like freakin rubbish dumps. Addressing crime would help too. SA could makes loads of money if it was done properly.

Your intent is great…sincere.

However, due to the 100 middlemen in that equation you will struggle a suffering endurance to prove this works at no-one's expense.

Rent: House needs to be paid off. You’ll still have property tax, levy, administration and maintenance.

The leaving it to your children, I have the utmost respect. But why not start building your castle cash and see where you end up in 30 years. Would be a lot cheaper.

A house can’t be an investment anymore. It was, not anymore, try securing a loan for it or selling it.

If you move fine, I agree, but in essence it should be an equal swop then without new finance costs or interest.

In order to be able to make a choice you need some insight and awareness. Baywatch (just as an example as it is apparently the most watched show in the world) is just the same whether you are watching it on SABC or YouTube (although the SABC quality is probably a bit better). If you are able to make a choice on the internet, I am pretty sure that the remote control on your TV gives you choice too.

As for 'economic agenda' - there are adverts all over the internet.

But please, point me to a half hour, or hour long, show made just for internet release. AFAIK a few music groups have released some material and there have been 'teaser' type releases for TV shows (Battlestar Galactica), but that's it.

Downloading House MD or any other show is downloading something made for TV.

Tax free, I agree with. But it will diminish the ruling party dictatorship kick-backs and financing lazy officials. Good idea.

I agree with the infrastructure requirements but this is just to sustain the potential of production not creating actual innovative products.

Not everyone if as priviliged as you to have broadband. You know what the broadband penetration rates in SA are? Less than the DSTV rate I bet.
