Trottling? or what exactly? I don't understand how my upload is faster..?

At night it just suddenly kicks in...

Been like this for about a month now. When you pay for something and dont get what you're paying for. I'm sure we've all experienced this.

That is a horrible latency for local, what line speed are you on? Looks like a line problem or something, PM the Mwebguy he usually responds asap.
Here is my speedtest

It could also be a congested exchange issue.

You can have a look at the List of congested exchanges thread to see if you're not in one of those affected areas.

It could also be that you have something that is downloading automatic updates, which could also cause that kind of behaviour.

It could also be a congested exchange issue.

I'm on the Pierre van Ryneveld exchange (TRYP01) using MWeb uncapped and from 18:00 till 21:00 every night my ADSL is nearly useless (3 hours to download a 20MB YouTube clip).
So if you're seeing the same speed issues like clockwork in the evenings it's most likely a congested Telkom exchange.

PvR still congested?

My brother stays there and I know his line used to suffer from congestion late afternoons/early evenings. Recently it's been fine though.

Hi n1ckna5

Send me a trace route to a local and international site so I can investigate.

I'll do some tests to make sure but it's like clockwork. After 21:00 it gets a lot better.

Test with another Router?

Also thought it was a congested Exchange and when tested with other Router, there was no more issues.

It's a hunch, but try a different router at that time to see if it improves it

Slow this side as well since yesterday, 033 212. Richmond KZN.

Afrihost is fine just switched accounts. :wtf:

Hi Hummercellc

Send me a trace route to a local and international site please.

This does look a bit weird, I will escalate this to our specialists to investigate.

@ Hummercellc:
It looks like a congested MWEB link between Durban and Johannesburg Internet Exchange.

There are quite a few speedtest.net servers in Durban, which should give you decent results I suppose if what I said is true - but the other locations (even in SA) should result in poor speeds...

Hi N1ckna5 have you checked with the ISP if you are not being throttled for overusage under your FUP? I am assuming that you are on an uncapped product.
Also is it everyday that you see this or only on a Tuesday?

I believe that Microsoft tends to release updates around midnight on a Monday PST and I often hear of people complaining that the Internet is slow on a Tuesday afternoon. This could be attributed to downloads of updates taking place but your times look a little worse than that.
Let us know

Well ive had this problem for about a month now..
As someone else said it becomes useless.
Can ISPs throttle from the 1st of August?

One thing i must mension is that this is COMPLETELY random..
Some hours itll be perfect (what im actually paying for[1mb uncapped]) but others such as now (5:30pm - Wednesday) it's easier to just give up to be honest.

note: ive also got telkom to reset my ports and mweb have refreshed my account many times.
Also doubt its a router problem purely because it's sometimes perfect and sometimes not.

Good Evening n1ckna5,

MWEB does not throttle and your line readings seem fine at the moment.

I would like to see if your experience will improve if you force a new IP connection (change your username realm in your router to @mweb.co.za) and let me know if that helps.

If not, please provide me tracers to local and international websites. Also some more detail as to what is slow on your end.

Watching with interest;) Where in the router setup do you change the 'username realm'?
