While I’m happy for everyone who isn’t affected by load shedding it is unfair that everyone isn’t contributing equally to reduce to load on the network.
My area never used to get load shed. Someone bragged about it on a radio station and now we constantly get load shedding.
Not sure if it's just coincidence...
And how do you determine what should be turned off and when? The only fair solution still is an equitable one where everyone is affected equally.Thats why I like this 'load limiting' thing(other than the possibly electronics failures), where they can turn off individual houses. An example was in dec, went to a friends kids birthday. Middle of summer, everyone is outside swimming, braai'ing etc. Inside, all pc's are on(4 kids, all need a pc each), no one using them, all tvs(4/5 through the rooms) are on, no one watching them, all aircons are on, doors and windows open and no one is inside. When conversation came up about load shedding, I pointed out he's one of the reasons its happening, he said he doesn't get affected by it. If power goes out, he has enough power from batteries/generators etc to keep everything on. So, this I'm guessing happens a lot. He is in a position to not be affected, so he has no incentive to 'save', he doesn't care that 200km away someone is sitting without electricity because of households like him just 'wasting'. Atleast with this smart meter/load limiting thing, he'll now be turned off, and not the guy 200km away.
Great lets bring attention to this :-(

Dear Tander
Thank you for reporting that your electricity is not load-shed. We will send out a specialist load-shed team within the next few days to ensure you are not discriminated against, and henceforth your power will be load-shed more often until such time as you are as angry, cold, and as miserable as everyone else

Actually the specific system for load limiting that's being considered is to turn off single items like geysers or stoves. Still not going to solve the issue with the specific case mentioned as power can be gathered at times when load is low and then used when it's high.Granted there are problems with it and I don't know how it works exactly, but in theory power is cut for 30sec. He then needs to turn off excess load(geyser/stove/aircons/maybe have 2 tvs on instead of 5 etc, whatever), test happens again, after 5 30sec cuts if he still over limit or opts not to lower his usage he gets cut for 30min, not the guy 200km away only running one light.

Yes let's. It's bullschit that some of us suffer and others don't. In Oakdene we're usually among the first to be load shed, but in Winchester Hills right next door they're never load shed. Either we all suffer together or we all don't suffer. I'm sick of having to sacrifice so that others can continue to live comfortably...
I have been complaining about this to City of Cape Town. My brother in law lives in the same suburb about a 1 kilometer away. He has never been load-shedded, ever! Meanwhile whenever load shedding is announce, we are affected. Half our suburb is dark and the other half brightly lit. City of Cape Town have yet to answer me. To my knowledge there are no "Critical" infrastructure in my suburb.
That would also make me a VIP, i.e. a Very Indignant Person(near VIP residences)
Meyerton had three consecutive nights of Stage 3 Load Shedding - where the power is out from 18:00 to around 22:00?
It's the fact that some of us get downright horrible timeslots every single time while others get to brag about how they never get loadshedding.
