I've got a 384 uncapped line from MWEB. I used to get 22KB-28KB speeds on torrents all the time, but now I'm lucky if I get 5KB.

My Uploads are running faster than my DL. Is MWEB in a permanent state of ubershaping?

I don't DL a lot of stuff, but what I do get I don't want to wait weeks for.

Anyone else experiencing this kind of thing?

No Idea. You sure your torrent is propley seeded?.I running on full speed but then again i am using http. You guys should try using Http to download. Its much more reilble i believe.

NNTP (news servers) FTW!
Torrents on a shaped account = megafail.
HTTP from certain file hosting sites are pretty good as well - like I like my MediaFire which has resume support, multi segmented downloads and above all you get that for FREE.

lol another idiot buying a shaped account to torrent...rly, do most ppl know what shape means that sign up for mweb uncapped accounts?
I just signed up today and all my dls run at full speed on my 4mb that's http and even ftp,and that's a bonus for me since I get most of my stuff from ftp.
Before you buy read what you buy and don't complain afterwords if its slow for a service you didn't buy it for.

stop being a ****ing tool. not many people know what shaping entails and neither do the ISP's try to educate the people. All they know is they have uncapped internet that's shaped. When a user doesn't know WTF they're getting, but know what they want, they buy the cheapest. So stop with your stupid ****ing snarky comments and telling people how you don't have any speed problems since you HTTP/FTP most of the time and **** off you troll

I think your remarks on mant1s' post was uncalled for, but I do agree with you that mant1s shouldn't kept some of his remarks to himself too. Schpat has been a registered user since 2006, so he probably did expect a bit more from this user...

I certainly don't have sympathy with people who simply buy stuff because it's cheap, instead of reading reviews or asking before you actually go ahead and buying it.
At least he's not bound by a 2 year contract like the Telkom suckers, but seeing that it's now the 1st Dec, he will be bound to Mweb till end of Jan 2011!

I have noticed that people's speed on Mweb's network differ quite a lot, but I can't say if it is contributed due to their location (Cpt vs Jhb) or simply due to the poor choice of protocol & server that they're using to download from. Usually the shaped accounts should reach near to the full line speed after like mid-night.
I would really urge schpat to download with another protocol. If he's currently downloading from a local torrent tracker, then the most likely cause for the poor speeds would be due to SAIX not peering locally with Mweb.

If you're really having issues with your Mweb account, then simply contact Mweb - they're really kind & helpful - or at least from my experience. Just don't expect them to help you download torrents faster, but they will most likely help you speed up your E-mail and general web surfing if you experienced problems with that.

Yeah, I'm not a total noob here, I knew what I was sigining up for. I generally DL about 5 - 10 GB per month and a shaped account is fine for that. I've been really happy with MWEB thus far, it's just that over the past few weeks I've noticed a marked drop off in service level to about 10% of what I used to get. I'm using intl private trackers and the torrents are well seeded.

Oh and because of the issues I have investigated and begun using NNTP. That is faster but not exactly reaching full line speed either.

I was just wondering if anything had changed and if anyone else had noticed.

I have also noticed a degradation in performance, including intermittent down time, for the last month. (This is in reference to HTTP and not NNTP or torrents)

my home torrents seems pretty slow also on 512kbs line, but HTTP seems to be flying even in business hours, 70kbs+ up to 80.

though my work is other way around at work , my torrents seems full speed after 6.30 , blazing at 600-700kbs o.0( line sync at 8mb) also shaped account.
