In the past month we have seen uncapped get cheaper from a few ISPs,
Now its been said that people who have uncapped tend to milk it for as much as possible, some using close to a Tb because they have to pay so much

So On a 384 Line you get about 50KB/s you could only download about 123.6Gb in a month (assuming you get top line speeds)

On a 512 Line you get about 64KB/s you could only download about 158.2Gb in a month

On a 4096 Line you get about 512KB/s you could only download about 1265.6Gb in a month

So Now looking at these results I think my idea would me more focused on the lower line speed,

Why Don't ISPs give us product options such as 30Gb or 100Gb? The lowest uncapped package to my knowledge in 5Gb, I could use that on browsing, Videos and AV updates :D
Why can't we have a package that's cheaper then current uncapped offerings?

Hope this come under consideration

Ive often wondered the same myself. But I think it comes down to them counting on the fact that most uncapped users won't use all of the allocated bandwidth and thus "subsidize" the heavy users. Also people who have CAPS tend to try to use all their allocated bandwidth more often than uncapped users.

However, I would also love something like this amongst similar lines :)

Ja I guy I know (who is in the networking business) says that's what allot of ISPs rely on, But It would be nice If we could get some solid facts

I would of course not mind a reasonably priced 4Mb uncapped service, but even a 60Gb international package at a reasonable price will have me smiling from ear to ear.

Local can also use a bit of a boost. Seeing that local is used for heavy downloading anyway, why not up the standard 30Gb deals to 100Gb?

Lets hope that Web Africa has some marketing sense and give us very cheap local only bw and reasonably priced international.

+1.

How about some cheaper packages with big caps!
If I look at myself, when i only have 5 gigs to use, i makre sure i get it all.
When I had 10Gig from WA, i used it as i pleased but also made sure to get some of those big downloads in , xbox demos etc etc.
When I had uncapped I never even got over 25Gig because I didn't have to stress that it would go away, I knew if i wanted something, I'd download it then, none of this, ooh quick, grap all the latest drivers, grab all the demos i want, grab some series just for one day maybe.

If you have a large package/uncapped at a cheap enough rate, people will not have the mindset that to not use it all is a waste!

I would second that.

We got uncapped at a place I worked a few years ago and after the initial frenzy died down over having this limitless resource, we pretty much settled into the pattern you describe.
Once the novelty wears off you pretty much download stuff as you need it.

So I will agree with others here that actually supplying uncapped may lead to lower bandwidth usage in the long term.

It's just very nice being able to make use of a service without having to look over your shoulder all the time at the Gigs.

Im sorry to hi-jack this topic but when you say that most downloads are from local, how do you download from local? Most P2P or torrent sites are International not so?

torrents can work on local If their are other people uploading in SA, or with local trackers such as bitfarm.
There is also news servers which enable you to download from usenet (overseas) through a local server (nzbs and etc.)
Oh and a DC++ network that I know of. (P2P)

Ok, that clears it up a bit but I have no idea what a news server is? Is it something like news24.com or what? Do you have to pay to download from these news servers?

Perhaps WA after doing their network upgrade testing will come to the party and who knows what will happen with "Telkom' next generation network"

Everyone is just tired of waiting for an ISP to have the balls to take on the challenge and give us what we been asking for so long....

I used to download 35Gb in 24h (1 TB per month projected total)

Only when downloading 1080p movies (+/- 15gb per movie) from Giganews with Diamond account and SSL connections. I would get constant 424 kbps from GrabIt on my 4 mbps ADSL line.

I was doing roughly 1 Gb in 40mins. :)

Uncapped + Giganews Acc + nzbmatrix subscription = HEAVEN

I will ABUSE an uncapped account.
Peace out :)

LOL I was talking about people who don't do that, and who can't afford uncapped... LOL show off ;)

Totally agree. We were using Neotel Prime uncapped, and our usage was as low as 18GB in a month (sometimes 11GB ).

Now that we're on Afrihost, 30GB seems to just about make it:P

Then again... that might just be because our Neotel connection was down a lot of the time, disconnecting, and generally just painful to use:P
