Why Vuma Reach is only available through two ISPs

Vumatel recently launched fibre in Soweto through its Vuma Reach project.

Vuma Reach is a fibre product designed to bring affordable fibre connectivity to South Africans living in townships.

Other areas now covered by Vuma Reach include Vosloorus, Tshwane, Grassy Park, and Blue Downs.

So do they now cover the whole City of Tshwane (they don't) or is this some other small area with the same name? Like that Marikana in Cape Town that messes everything up.

"Vuma Reach fibre packages in Soweto are priced at R399 per month.

This service provides subscribers with uncapped data, and download and upload speeds of 20Mbps and 10Mbps respectively.

As part of the Vuma Reach product, customers will also receive the following:

  • Free installation worth R999
  • Free Phone Calls – 30 min/month
  • Free Router"
Smoking good deal this

Most likely not. Even though they are in Mitchell's Plain not all of area is being covered.

What happens when this R399 pricing increases, or is Vumatel going to implement a price lock and just increase their pricing outside of these Vumatel Reach areas?

We already are paying double and some more than this R399 price for similar speeds for Vumatel.

Don't tell me it is not the same fibre, they sell it as a certain line speed - the bottom line.

How far do they think can they push us as "normal" Vumatel subscribers to subsidize these Reach areas?

I will have a look at Rain 5g for R699 uncapped when it arrives in my area.
Or any other service that becomes available in the near future that has decent pricing etc.

So that's why the pricing went up this month. Damn shame our area only have them as the Line suppliers, and
that's with the R999 having to be paid up front.

totally unrelated, any of you guys gaming on LTE? How is it for lag etc.? Any uncapped packages worth considering.

These "free routers" are just little last mile supplier boxes that use 1 login and password through which all users and devices must connect. Unlike a conventional router/Wi-Fi modem there is little control. Also the range is kak. Apparently called a CPE as detailed in the attachment. I wonder if later, ISP's such as Afrihost will make arrangements for those existing customers who are used to premium products and also responsible upkeep of accounts to not be ransomed by these cautious devices and setups meant for areas that are known not to pay for much.
