ganking != pvp
pvp = BG's / Arenas
ganking = The act of hitting someone when they least expect it.
My very 1st hordie kill ever was in ashenvale at lvl 25 when I ganked a lvl 34 tauren warrior. He was killing bears or some such and I jumped him with my rogue
If I had to politely ask him to turn on his pvp flag so I could challenge him I'd be smeared all over the treeline.
The best thing about pvp servers is the anticipation and uncertainty of whether or not you're being targeted. It also shows territorial dominance when you're questing. Stepping out of the "green" zone the 1st time made me worry a little, because I was no longer protected by the borders of my people.
Plus there's nothing quite as cool as sapping a dude and then stealing the mining vein he was tapping
So many times we've gotten the call from a newling in our guild saying "oh noez! horde ganking southshore plz help kthnx" ... within moments 10 of us land and drive them back into the hills. It adds a bit of a cavalry feeling to the game & breaks the monotonous bg/arena/raid "work" that you always do.
