Why your ADSL speeds are so unpredictable

Many businesses complain about unpredictable Internet speeds over their digital subscriber line (DSL) broadband connections, said SEACOM.

It explained that the reason for this lack of reliability is the copper cabling that DSL connections run on.

Thanks to the help of @TelkomZA I will post a speedtest tonight.

lol.

if the copper connection is set up correctly, it is reliable and predictable.

what is unpredictable is when poorly skilled technicians will mess with your copper, or when the isp oversubscribes. this can happen with any medium.

what nonsense is this? adsl bad get fibre?

That upload is rather bad. I'd take fibre above copper any day.
I am fairly certain that is a deliberate limitation put in place by telkom and not "copper" these lines can go way more than this.

It's always easy to blame Telkom but ISP's are also over selling with crazy amount of contention.
And I can prove this by switching ISP's when my line drops below 50% of its performance and suddenly its back to decent performance.

Example; Vox used to be flawless at all times, but since they have become popular, my performance is abysmal around peak hours.

Though one thing is for sure and that is that I can solve the performance issues by switching, however. If the exchange is oversold, there is nothing one can do.
