Why your DStv subscribtion fee was hiked by over 8% this year

MultiChoice said the weakness of the rand was the main reason for the larger-than-normal DStv price increases earlier this year.

If this is the reason why were there increases when the rand was stable?
Maybe a followup article showing increases vs. R/$ to see if this is just spin!

Do not talk kack. I am 100% sure the price will NOT drop should the Rand strengthen dramatically. Idiots.

If linked to the exchange rate then why have subscription prices never declined year-on-year?

/waits for his free adsl speed upgrade 2Mbps to 4Mbps and ditch the monochoice.

what excuse will they use next. it will go up every year without fail. fact.

Instead of Why your DStv subscribtion fee was hiked by over 8% this year

waiting for the headline that says your fees were hiked to make up for all the customers we lost.

This doesn't make much sense. If most of the African revenue is derived in USD and their content is paid for in USD then why not make use of CFC accounts to hold their USD currency and then use that to pay for their content. Then it's basically an intercompany journal but their currency fluctuation exposure becomes limited. Bringing their foreign USD revenue into ZAR and then paying for content from ZAR to USD again just doesn't make any sense. Sure their AFS will show the currency loss but in terms of actual cash the loss will be limited. Naspers doesn't seem to be telling the full story when it comes to this situation.
